What are better Blank rotors or crossed drilled slotted
Hey whats up? I got a 94 eg with a turbo ls. I have the rear disic convertion in it. I was just wonder what rotors are better blanks or drilled slotted. I do alot of drag and street racing. Its not my daily driver. If anyone has any advice on which ones to go with could you please help me. THANKS A LOT

they dont. Otherwise they'd use them on Formula 1 cars. They use blanks. You should too. Cross drilled/slotted reduces the area of the rotor, can crack and lead to brake failure. Not worth it. Plus if u say ask Why does ferrari use it on their cars? Ferrari admitted it was for looks rather than purpose. Go figure.

This thread is going to get ugly it allways does, it should be locked now I think someone just made that account up to start this debate up again.
Blanks are overall better, this is not an opinion, and drilled do NOT dissapate heat better.

the only real advantage to the drilled rotors is the weight reduction. I dont think the modern day brake pads produce gases anymore like they did a long time ago. That's why rotors were slotted to dissipate the gases. If you need to lose all the rolling weight you can, then go with the drilled rotors, otherwise stick with blanks
Did you read my thread? Modern pads DONT gas. Best setup is blank rotor with those semi-ceramic pads. THe loss in weight from a drilled rotor, i mean dont make me laugh, the loss in iron in a drilled rotor weighs less than one of your wheel weights, its unnoticable probably even on a dyno.
If you can find modern pads that gas, please let me know, cause Id like to read up on that company that makes em.

Cross drilled and slotted rotors suck my ***... Have some that came on my car and they have cracked and warped and made the pedal feel like it's pulsing. I'm going with some Brembo blanks as soon as I can.
Ive just installed Brembo blanks with PBR pads. Very nice. I had to search to the forum first before I decided on them. Pretty good deal at 88 rotors.
I just wished they can stay clean and not rust out like all rotors does.

Did you read my thread? I said i dont think they did, so i guess i was right. I never ever said they did gas. Read before you flame.

WOW this is like the 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000 I have seen a thread like this ibtl.
I've always understood that having more surface area on a rotor provides more stopping power. Drilling holes in the rotor was a practice back in the days where brake pads inadvertantly built up a gas between the rotor and pad during hard braking. The holes were there to relieve the gas, thus permitting more friction. These days brake pads have been formulated to where they will not release a gas under hard and extended braking, rendering "drilled rotors" out of their usefullness. Slots in the rotor (from what i understand) prevent the pad from becoming "glazed".
Drilled rotors have a decreased surface area of 17%. Slotted rotors have a decreased surface area of about 4%..... And if you get slotted AND drilled rotors....you do the math.
...just my $.02
...and i just now read the post and i really feel like a dumbass

What kills me is that this was in the 1960s, 40 years ago. WHY are they still selling? Who are the dick companies that lie to people and say there better? You see em on Ferraris and Porsche and they will admit that is because people THINK they look better so people THINK the holes look better, so its for show. why would you want bullet holes in your brakes? makes em look broken. stupid holes.
