help with minor rust repair
Well i live in canada. so i started to see some rust around the back fenders of my prelude and decided to go to a body shop to see more or less what im looking at to fix it. well the guy told me if you want it done right it im looking at $800. Personally i think hes sick. its not much rust and i just want it patched up and painted over. He was saying that there is alot of labour involved and that they would cut out the entire area and fabricate a new piece which i understand. My question is, is there anything i can do myself so that it will lesson the cost? or any way to work around cutting out the entire area? here are pics

im no body guy but ive seen it done, if you want it done rite its worth the money, try to cut the panels out of a junk car and maybe the price will come down.
That would cost 500-1000euros over here to fix depending on how bad it is if its dont by a pro.
I'll tell you how the problem started though, your rustproofing sucked... When you get it fixed, have proper rustproofind done to it, otherwise its few years and it looks again like that.

800CAD is a damn good deal for that, does it include paint?
I'm having replacement patches welded on both of my rear 1/4s and having a part of my door frame replaced for $800USD with paint. I thought that was a real good price.

oh alright thanks for input. yes $800 complete with paint and everything. well. he was saying i can do it in fiberglass for about $600. and i was considering this because iam only keeping the car for another year or two and i want to clean it up a bit. Although the body shop guy was saying fiberglass isnt the best way to do it. why is that? he was saying the rust would come back alot sooner but how if its not metal?
Yup...
Fiberglass repairs SUCK ***.
When its metal on metal, with body solder and proper paint it with rustproofing will be hermetically sealed and it wont rust.
With fiberglass, the resin affects paint around the place, it expands and contracts differently to steel, you'll get cracks, it will also come off the metal quite easy, moisture will get underneath it and kaboom you have twice the **** as before.
Listen to the bodyshop guy and dont skimp off few hundred to get a totally **** job.
I spent 9 hours welding my nissan thanks to some shitface previous owner who did fiberglass repairs which fell off. People who do fiberglass repairs should be shot on sight.

one reason it's so expensive for the lude is that no one makes an aftermarket panel. Certifit and Keystonehaven't touched Preludes. Gotta go through Honda for them and they're about $500 a panel. I've been searching for my roommate on the same car.

Having owned cars that have had this exact repair done, numerous times, and I also live in Canada, pay the $800. That's decent price. If the shop is fabricating the repair panels rather than using partial quarters, there really is a lot of work to that job. Do yourself a favor though, once the repair is finished, take your car and have it rustproofed, using Krown, or Oil guard or something along those lines, and the repair will last longer. The shitty part about your repair, is that there is much more damage than you can see, that rust is coming from the inside out. It's like an iceberg. They look pretty big above the surface, but there's twice as much under the surface.
