Default d16 internals swap?

i was under the impression that all d16 internals were interchangable
for instance buying a donor block and putting the a1 crank/rods/pistons in it

EDIT: I can't for the life of me remember why i posted this in here instead of the EG forums oh well...

not sure of your question, but yes D16A1 pistons and rods will work in D-series block - the crankshaft may or may not work, depending on what size the front snout is - you would need to make sure that the timing gear that goes on the crank will fit - you can't use the A1 crank gear on a SOHC engine - what year is the D16A1? does it have domed pistons?

situation is this...
i'm looking at buying the d16a1 pistons/rods and possibly crank but i have a 91 crx so the a1 won't bolt in cause it's the one from the older tegs but i really like the CR with the A1 and head i'm looking at (D15B VTEC JDM) but since the block won't fit in my car without fabrication i want to use a doner y8 or z6 or ?? bare block and use the a1 internals to get my desired result

can i do this?

yes - just watch crankshafts - there are 2 different ones on the A1 - also, if you happen to be planning to run a JDM ZC transmission, you need to watch which block you get as not all will permit bolting on of the intermediate shaft - i was asking what year the A1 is because the 86-87 did not have the domed pistons
