diff. gas ratings
this guy i know has a 98 accord v6 and said that his car has trouble starting when he fills up on 87 gas. he said that he has to put in higher rated fuel. what could be wrong with his car? i was reading other posts and people were saying that 87 is fine and anything higher is a waste of money for the stock motor. are the j-series motors different? if they take 87 gas, could any of you help me on how to save him some money buy putting in 87 gas?
putting anything other than 87 octane in a pre 2003 accord is useless. Most likely he has carbon buildup in the engine and he should use seafaom to clean it out..
The V6 actually makes 4 less hp and 15ft/lbs less torque on higher octane fuel. I use nothing but 87 and performance is spot on for my car.

have him check his owner's manual... the chilton's says to use 91 octane for my wife's car, but she gets by w/ 87, which was stated in her owner's manual.
maybe he needs to decarbonize his engine? do a search on that...

For any given geographic area of the Continental US, the only appreciable differences with fuels is either a Winter Blend and a Summer Blend. Winter Blends burn quicker (to compensate for cold(er) weather, Summer blends burn slower to control detonation during warm(er) weather.
There is no appreciable difference between octane ratings which would cause a starting problem.
Look elsewhere

doh, yup
like check battery cable connections to see if they're free from corrosion. check battery as well... free load tests @ most autozones, advance autoparts, etc.
heck, autozone can run a trouble code scan for free while u r there.
or, do you have the correct oil weight? 10w30 can cause a slight drag on the engine... but shouldn't affect it that much.
or some other preventative maintenance item (spark plugs, etc.)
