Default ECU needs to be programmed?huh?

I recently replaced my ECU and I was told by a (street) mechanic that I needed to get it programmed. Is there such a thing or is he just talkin ****?

Well did you get a chipped ecu without a program? If so then yes you need to program it.

Did you buy just a stock never been touched ecu? Then no you dont need to get a program.

if your unsure if it is chipped show us a pic of the board inside your ecu and we can tell you if you have to program it or not. most likely hes was just saying you should get it chipped that way you can program it.
