Test: We at CPRacing tested the Yonaka intercooler on a 94 Honda Civic

We used one of Yonaka’s older intercoolers which was a 24x12x3 which is suppose to be less efficient then the current intercoolers they have on the market now. The car was on 18psi (no nitrous) the car made 430hp we made four pulls on this car with about 10 minute breaks in between after the first pull the air inlet temps where at 75 after 4 pulls the air inlet temps where at 84.

This car had a PWR 22x11x3 back door intercooler on it this car was on 11psi made right around 300hp on the first pull we saw a inlet temp of 74 by the fourth pull we saw 94 inlet temps.



I know this is two different setups on two different cars but it shows you the Yonaka Intercoolers are just if not more efficient than other intercoolers on the Market we plan on tuning the CRX on high boost in the up coming weeks so I will let you all know what the higher boost levels do on the intercooler kits.

The air inlet temps show what they show, its not like boost is not making it through the intercooler the car laid down 437hp.

 

im not saying it doesnt work.....just saying there is room for improvement.

 

well which intercooler are you comparing it to on the market? I am not saying its the best like I said we only tested it compared to the PWR. I would like to know some other peoples air inlet temps with similar setups

 

Most of the guys where I'm from run Yonaka FMIC's with great success .For the cost of the FMIC's you can't go wrong,I've never heard a single problem with anyone using one of there Intercoolers and these are High WHP cars using them.

I have a couple of Yonaka parts on my car and I couldn't be happier.There products are good quality and there customer service is top notch.

 

agreed good prices, we have there swap mounts on one of our race cars never had a problem and also running some of their intercoolers with no issues

 

y7/y8 15 psi. Cold out, like 50's i was seeing 90 degrees with a dsm sidemount, tucked away.

 

25psi and 515 hp on an sc61 for me with that exact intercooler, cant beat it for what i paid. we will see how far it goes with 30-32 psi and a t67 next month

 

What was the before and after temps like pre intercooler and post intercooler temps, also if you tested one car in the morning and the other in the afternoon there could of been significant differences in outside air temps that would make the whole test this test is no good without before intercooler temps and after temps..

 

all i know is, when dyno tuning, my hot side end tank is warm/hot and the cold side is cold, like it doesnt feel like any type of hot feeling, cool to the touch.

 

FYI: on higher horsepower setups you will see some very nice gains by cutting one end tank off and flipping it upside down so that the inlet and outlet are offset on the core of the intercooler. I did this on a friends car for the purpose of getting better ground clearance for one side of the intercooler piping, and was very suprised with the gains.

What boost are you running at?

It seems like it might though, and your right, you wont see it happening*sarcasm*

interesting idea with cutting the end tank and flipping it, but that **** seems like it would cost a lot of money, tig welders aint cheap men to deal with lol

 

those style IC are junk....they dont flow worth sh*t....the air is being forced into it and then it hits a flat wall, there is no telling which was the air is going to travel when it hits the wall.....testing has shown that you get un equal ammounts of air on every dyno pull......bad design
