Default Do it yourself camber....where does that washer go??

I've heard of people correcting their own rear camber by inserting a washer in the control arms (I think). Can anyone show me a pic of where this washer is supposed to go, or give me some details on the install?

the washers go on the bolts you remove from the upper control arm. when you pull the 2 bolts out you place the washer on the bolts and screw them back in.

I have heard of people using washers for the rear camber. Kind of ghetto tho. but all you do is pull the control arm off and slip a couple washers over the bolt then reconnect it. I would not recommend doing this to the front because its usually more of a correction.

Not to mention did I say its kind of ghetto.

but is it affective? is there any long term downside to using washers instead of a camber kit? if not, what exactly makes it ghetto?

Cuz in the ghetto you can't afford the real thing, so you do whatever works? Just a guess from a suburbian cracker.

you insert the washers where the upper control arm connects to the frame/body... once you pull your wheel you shold see what I'm talking about.. sorry I dont have an illustration.. but there are 2 bolts that hold the upper control arm to the frame/body..you basically slip washers between that so it shims it out.. you might look into getting longer bolts but I've had this for years and have had no problems... ghetto? maybe.. but I'm not paying like $75-100 just for camber plates that do the same thing.. I'd rather spend my money on other things... the front camber kit is a totally different story...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using washers. It works, it's been proven to work, and that's all that matters. There is no downside to using washers in the rears. Some shops actually correct the rear camber for our cars by simply using washers without telling us.

You can call it ghetto all you want. I'll be smiling and laughing my *** off knowing that I corrected my rear camber with little to no money while you spent the "big bucks" on a camber kit. But hey...if you feel you need to go the extra mile and dial in your rear camber at .01 increments, more power to you.

Sorry for going off-topic.

yups I've been using the washer method for over 3 yrs w/o any problems on my car.. fixed the rear camber issues i had and it LITERALLY cost 7 cent each washer.. you can washer/shim your rear control arms (both sides) for literally under $1... Lolz.. If you were to go to a shop and get a camber plate and installed that would be like $75-100 vs $1 for the same effect...

I heard you had to get longer bolts aswell? mines droped about 3" how many washers would correct it (well since they do make different size washers, how far do i need to bring the arm out?) thanks

damn dude.. i really forget if their 3/4" or 1/2" washers.. all i remember is that they were 7 cents each and thats all i bought and ppl were lookin at me wierd.. cuz i had a bunch of washers in my hand.. i doubled stacked it.. so i bought 8 washers (theres 2 bolts on each side)... and it was literally under $1... hahah

btw my car is dropped w/ eibach sportlines.. so its about a 1.8" drop and i used 8 washers..

There used to be a nice page with pics on how to do this. It was here http://www.geocities.com/kingmantis81/rearcamber.html, but it has been down for a few weeks at least. I need to do this on my car.

If this is your page, please put it back.

Can this washer method only be used on the rear? What can I do about the front?
