Identify Manifold
Hi everyone, I am about to purchase a EK civic which the owner claims to have a B18C5 with a Type R manifold. How do I know the owner is not pulling a fast one here on the Type R manifold? Is there anyway I can identify it visually without removing it? Pictures will help me out a lot.
It looks like this:

That's the Skunk2 manifold though...but it's an almost direct copy (on the outside anyway...I'm not sure on the inside or porting) of the ITR manifold.

Shouldnt you be more concerned that its a type r motor and not a poor mans R motor?
Your concern for a manifold seems outta place......am I missing something here?

Exactly, look on the block for B18C5. BTW, ask him for the VIN on the engine, good chance that its stolen.

Now now, you know what they say about assuming...

Where on the manifold is this P73 stamped? Other than the stamped B18C5 which was removed for inspection purposes, the green paint near the distributor, What are the other visible identifications on the block?

Here.... I fixed it for you.

I live at least 20,000miles from USA, south east asia. The engine was acquired from a scrap yard here in my country. From what I know, the theft rate for cars here is 1 in a year. Or maybe less. Appreciate if we could focus on the question of how to identify a B18C5 head, block and manifold.

Here's a pic of my old IM. Some civic SI is sporting it now.

The earth circumferance is approx 24900 miles, and the USA is about 3000 miles wide. It is unlikely that you live much more than 10000 miles from the USA.
Though, if you were in a geosynchronous orbit of the earth, you'd be at least 20,000 miles from the USA.

Yo bro, is yours a type r manifold? It looks different from the pic posted by jetydosa. Yours is short of the gold metal vacuum tube. Other than the P73 stamping in jetydosa's picture, is there any other significant identifications?

Yea... came off my car.
It was stamped p73... I sold it to a guy for 180. Perhaps a weird lighting condition.
Good luck with your non-stolen motor setup.

That seems to be the explaination for the differences. The one by jetydosa is a JDM one I guess. The pics and replies really helped out alot. Many thanks to all the bros that chipped in. I think having a comparision picture from many angles of a B16a and B18C5 manifold would be good. Since these 2 manifolds have the same bolt pattern, sellers could just claim its a type r manifold if the buyer does not know the differences.

good luck checking it out
american honda owners have an "on guard" attitude when it comes to their cars and cars like theirs. grinding the engine code or vin off is a pretty big red flag that the part in question is likely stolen

Yes, I am quite sure of that too. Do you know what the left vacuum hose plugged with a screw is used for? The engine I saw has a screw plugged in too. Why would anyone design that vacuum port for it to be plugged in like that?
