LS/Vtec - What would happen if??? ECU questions...
So, I have a '96 Integra and I am in the process of building an LS/Vtec. I am using p30 pistons and an obd2 b16 head. As far as Engine Management goes, I haven't fully decided on what to use yet, I would like to use something like a chipped p28 or something or even a modded obd2 p72 or p73 ecu for emmissions sake. I live in an emmissions regulated zone in Oregon and this is my question. Could I use the stock LS ecu just to get by for the emmissions testing? For the test, all they do is plug into the diagnostic port and read info at idle. Is it possible that the non-Vtec lobes on theVtec cam profile might have something the LS ecu would disagree with? Other than that, displacement would be the same, obviously higher compression, but I could back off the ignition timing at the distributor. Is there anything else here I could be missing that would throw a code with the LS ECU or cause damage to the motor?
So my plan would be to plug in the stock LS ECU just for DEQ time.
Also while we are on the topic of ECU's, does somebody make a decent program that doesn't require the knock sensor signal for Vtec engagement?
Sorry for the NOOB questions.
