Default Cant put the new timing belt on to save my LIFE.

I did the auto tensioner to manual conversion.

I had this same ****** problem when i did my head swap. I cannot for the god damn life of me, get the belt on.

I start at the crank, then the water pump, then the exhuast cam, then TRY to put it on the intake cam. Ive tried hanging the belt off as much as it would go on all those items, and it just seems to be uh oh to tight.

Im about 10 seconds away from pouring gasoline all over the lude and watching the son of a bitch burn.

i may just buy the damn honda/snapon tool that sits in the cam gear.

Put it arond the crank then the cam gears then the water pump then the tensioner that's the easy way. The tensioner needs to be tightened in the slack position then once you get teh belt on you loosen the tensioner so it tightens the belt then you tighten teh tensioner again. Good luck but it will be easier now.

I used a big screw driver and just pryed up on the belt to slip it over the cam gear. It was by no means easy but it worked for me. Give it a try.

i tried that and i still couldn't get it.

this is what i did to finally get it on. since the tensioner pulley has no teeth its much easier, and you don't have to line anything up.

i used a 5mm pin on the exhaust cam
slid the belt over the crank and onto the ex cam gear and over the tensioner...
then i turned the intake cam with a big adj wrench slightly to get the belt to slip on

evrything is in TDC

but if you let go of the wrench all the way when the belt is finally on...would could skip a tooth because there will be a lot of slack on the belt

i pulled the balancer tensioner off then go the belt set on everything but the tensioner then yanked up real hard and it work perfect. did it like 3 times in a row.

Glad you figured it out and let me know now what to do when I do the conversion next weekend. Course, the engine is out of the car....that should make it a bit easier right?

it wasnt so bad in the car. I think its going to suck *** outside of the car as you arent going to know if you got the timing dead on till the car starts.

Perfect example. I got everything lined up perfect lastnight. quadroople checked everything. Get it all buttoned up and go to fire the car up, nothin. ****** horseshit. i offically hate timing belts.

EDIT: I just pulled a really ****** dumb move. Im so retarted, im not even gonna say what i did. lol i think the car will start now. Ill check when i get home.

I thought i rememberd the firing order from the dizzy cap, well i didnt. I forgot. lol

Looking at it with the 2 little screws at the top it is

21
43

damnit im retarted.

Also, for the auto to manual conversion, i DID use that little bracket plate. That thing is awesome, id highly recomend using it. It used to two auto tensioner bolts and sits behind the timing belt tensioner. It needs a small 10mm nut but you can lock the tension down this way until you get the balancer belt all tensioned up and then lock the adjusting nut.

Yep that plate is the shiz, soo you can lock the tension of the tbelt and then do the b-belt.

Right now the timing belt is on with everything in place (except there is an auto tensioner there for the time being, since I did not have the manual tensioner parts when I had the block assembled)

On the dizzy cap, you are referring to the plug wires (order)?

Try working it over the exhaust cam last instead of the intake cam,
there's more room for slack on that side.

I usually work it from the crank, to the tensioner, to the wp, to the intake
cam, then I push down on the tensioner to get the most slack over it and
last I fit it over the exhaust cam.

the easiet way by far is how i listed.

You can get way more leverage down low with both hands then you can up top with your finger tips over a cam gear.
