Hey guys I have a question about the rust on my coupe. The Pennsylvania winters have owned my car pretty hard. I want to get it re-sprayed this summer. But before I do, I need to get some rust issues fixed. The spots are in the usual Honda places. All of the issues are on the rear quarter panels. I’m not a body or paint guy so I am not going to attempt this myself. I’ve pretty much come up with three options to fix this problem, I just can’t figure out which one is the best option.

1. Is to go to Honda and get 2 new rear quarter panels. I’ve priced them out at about $800 for the both of them. I have no idea what these would cost to get installed. Anyone have any ideas? This option would definitely get rid of all the rust and seems to be the “ideal” option to completely fix everything.

2. Is to get a donor car from a junk yard etc and cut out a piece of the quarter panel from the donor and get that piece welded in place and sand and fill ect. I’m just not sure I’ll be able to find a suitable car for donor pieces. I’m assuming all the 5 gen coupes in the junk yard are going to have some sort of rust after 10 years of winter. I’m also not sure the hours involved in the labor as far as welding, filling, and sanding the new piece into place. I know that the parts would be a hell of a lot cheaper, but I’m not sure as far as the labor compared to installing the whole quarter panels?

3. And I’ve seen these replacement panels on ebay, mostly for the hatches.



I’m not sure if there are any out for the coupes or not? This seems like it would be a cleaner option than number 2 as far as the parts being new panels and being rust free. This seems to be the best/easiest option. I just can’t find a set for the coupes. Supposedly they exist but I can’t find any. Anybody know where to find them?

check your napa/autozone type stores. Those can be had for coupes, hatches and sedans for about $40-50 a side.

Its a rear quarter rust repair kit. They are just really hard to get because people want them a lot.

i know they had them for the coupes too but cant find the part number. Just call them and ask. Cant beat it for this price.

Napa carries a rear quater pannel rust repair kit eh....Didn't know that. Can't find it on their sites. Going to napa tomorrow. I live in Ontario,we get snow!!!!

their site sucks, most napas have a pannel catalog. Just ask at the desk.

 

i went down to place by where i live called strawpump autobody panels and picked up two rear 1/4 panel sections for my eg8.. they came with the wheel arch like in your picture and only ran me about $80 for both sides...you can do it yourself it isnt real hard just takes alot of patience, if you wanna do it yourself let me know and ill give you a step by step process on how to weld the new panels in and make sure they don't rust again. lucky for you yours is on a coupe so you don't have to do inside the door jams like i did.

 

Wish I had a place down here like that. Maybe we could work something out,How much to ship them to canada??

Im in manitoba. Im sure the napa's here in canada can source them for us canadians..

Have you thought of just going to a body shop and getting a quote....probably way less than $800, unless the rust is really bad that you need a new quarter panel. I had to get mine done at a body shop and they just welded on some metal, no need for Honda quarter panel part.

I got a quote from a local shop and they would weld new metal at both 1/4's and a lil on the door for under 900. So it isnt a bad idea. Thats including paint on each 1/4. They also warranty their work for 2 years.

 

i hate the honda spot... rear quarterpanels suck.

I hope you really love your car cause that is a lot of money. It won't add $900 to the value of the car if you ever intend on selling it. Something to think about, just my .02

There are holes due to rust on both my rear panels. what would be best.. buying 2 new panels at 800 a pop?? Using fiberglass (no knowledge on reliability of this stuff)? or new metal? Or what about taking rear panels off a mint junker?

better yet.. can anyone give me more solid info on that panel repair kit from napa??

 

i &lt;3 bodywork. depending on the extent of the rust i would just buy some sheet metal, get some body hammers and go to town. weld them in, grind the welds, then use filler to smooth it out. the hardest part is welding them in. i body worked a 90 CRX that was hammered **** when i started with it, and made it look damn near perfect with this method. just a thought, and you will save a **** ton of money by doing it this way. message me for more details

 

I think $900 sounds too cheap. Most shops charge like $200 for just a bumper.

& if u go to Honda, OMG prolly like $2G... so DIY.

 

My shop just did the weld metal in thing, but it was just a inch sized hole, nothing more.

 

omg honda charges like 450 for each panel... its not THAT bad.... especially if you do the work yourself...

 

i get mine for 22$ each oem new.. just gotta find a local wholesale place
