the bolt on the head is a 14...u dont need to put anything there...its used to put the chain on when u pull out the motor...and the other bolt on the distrubutor is a 12...all u really need is 2 bolts on it

oh thanx, is there any bolts you would think of that would be off ? cuz my car chokes really bad and my only guess is now that bolts are missing, i replaced the distrubutor, rewired the whole engine, only thing thats left to do is get a new idler, i really dont know what else is wrong with it, and unfortently non of my mechanics know whats wrong either, maybe you guys have a idea ??

But when you take the dizzy off and put a new one on, you have to check timing. The dizzy rotates whe the bolts are loose. Thats how you adjust timing with a timing light using the crank pulley. Search, I know I've seen a how to do article with good pictures.

by dizzy, he means distributor. I'm willing to bet your ignition is out of time. Thats part of what the missing bolt does. if your mechanics didn't know that then I think you should find some new ones. Good luck man

no. Sorry, by ignition I meant the timing of the spark on your motor which is controlled by the distributor. You need that bolt and then need it set to zero.

Many LSVTEC's run the distributor with only two mounting bolts, so that shouldn't be a problem. Just grab the distributor and move it forward and back to see if it is holding the adjustment.

If it moves, snug the mounting bolts to spec and try again, or go ahead and replace the missing mounting bolt. If it holds the adjustment, use a timing gun to check your timing. Like mentioned earlier, your ignition timing is directly related to where you mounted the distributor on the head, it can be moved towards the firewall to advance timing and moved toward the radiator to retard timing.

Also check to make sure your wires are in the correct order on the dist. cap and that your cam gears haven't jumped a tooth on the belt. Let us know what fixes it.
