Anyone fit an 8" 3 way speaker in the door of an EG civic? if so piccs please? Or was it a good fit?

 

LOL!!! I'm sure it can be done, but there's no way in hell there's going to be enough depth in the door, unless you never want to put the window down again... You'd have to build custom door panels to create the depth required to mount that speaker...

I have, however, seen installs with 8" subs in the kicks in custom pods....

 

dont listen to this complete retard. yes, it can be done. you'll have to create MDF baffles. just make sure to deaden the **** out of it and you should be able to get a TON of midbass. what speakers are you thinking of going with? DLS?

there are actually 8 inch 3-way component sets.
dynaudio makes a set with 8 inch woofers, 3 inch mid-bass and 1.1 inch tweeters.
i was just introduced to these.
probably makes for great imaging and staging.

original poster, make sure to amp the set and also add a nice woofer to your system as well

Lets get this straight and cleared out before the bashing begins. Yes they do make 8inch 2 and three way systems. But there is a catch. Most companies don't make them. Why, Because most cars if not all do not come with 8 inch coxail. But here is a catch. If you want them you can get them. But Most will be home audio look below



Now if you want to get theses to work you are goind to have to do some wiring because most home audio is 8 ohm. I carry theses above because My vendor also carries mad home audio. Theses set alone is going to set you back almost 350 bux. Theses a kevlar speakers by pro-sound. Eugenics I never seen in anypost that b18 said that they made them or heard of them. Lets get back to helping people instead of bashing each other on someone elses post that needs help. More heads toghter will help this guy out rather then all heads bashing each other. Just my 2 cents.

and for the sake of sound staging and imaging.. if the car for the audio is right for a component 3-way setup.. by all means. get it.
dynaudio makes a killer setup with outboard crossovers, but as wrx killer stated.. these are VERY pricey.
i picked up a set of JL Audio 3-way XR's for 275 at my price, but they will cost the ordinary buyer in the neighborhood of 600-700 dollars.

as i stated before.. you should add a woofer to this system.. originial poster, what are your thoughts?

and eugenics made a good point by just making MDF baffles instead of fabbing new door panels. it will overall be better for the deadening of sound you dont want, easier to make, and much more stealth and clean looking in my opinion.

im much more of an SQ guy rather than make it as loud as possible and have "crazy" installs. because it just sounds stupid and a waste of money to me.
others have their own opinions though.

i've got a set of the 6.2's

 

first let me start off by saying coax's are gay. if you're going to get any speakers for the front they should be components. second. Sure you can fit an 8 in the front door, but you're going to have to not only make new MDF baffles and cut some sheet metal depending on the shape of the basket, you're also going to have to re make part of the door panels. The other fun part will be getting the proper airspace for the 8" in the door. I'd suggest building an AP enclosure for them.

It can be done, i've seen it before. just dont think its as simple as making an MDF baffle screwing it in and you have a ton of midbass.

well fcm, since you know everything why dont you explain it better. because you see i've already installed a set of 8 and 7 inch drivers. go play in your ******* JL shop and shut the expletive up because thats obviously how far your knowledge goes. most car audio drivers are IB, and your door is hardly an air tight enclosure.

until you actually know something that extends farter then your shop, shut the expletive up. you're probably just another half *** installer that sits in the shop and talks **** on everything he is ignorant to. and there is nothing gimicky about a 3 way component set. common sense should tell you he's not talking about a coax speaker. how many 8 inch 3 way coax's are there? get back in your shop bitch

whats so hard to ******* grasp? the driver used on the 6.5 and 8 dls, and 6.5 and 7 dayton rs are the same. same size etc. so all the mdf baffle has to do is give enough room for the basket to clear. inch, inch and a half. there is usually more then enough room. so its hardly a problem at all. THE MOTOR/DRIVER IS THE SAME SIZE ITS NOT A GIANT FEAT TO FIT IT, **** try installing the new xxx mids, thats more of a challenge then most 8's

So common sense tells, that when somebody suggests that sheet metal may need to be cut, appearance tells me to agree and to caution not to do so without reinforcing the cut area.
