So I just purchased a new car since my Prelude was totaled during Christmas break. The previous owner of the vehicle said he purchased the car from his brother-in-law, who had put a system in the car (all new speakers inside, 2 jl audio amps+a jl audio subwoofer+an equalizer in the trunk). I am completely clueless when it comes to sound system/wiring stuff. When we test drove the car, the sound system was making a huge weezing sound, the guy said he would take care of it before handing the car over. I got the car now, the sound is definitely not as bad as it was the day we test drove, but it is still there. It actually starts when the car starts, coming out of the speakers, after turning the radio on it is barely noticeable if i turn up the volume. Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

 

if it only happens when the motor is running, it could be electrical noise

 

Ground loop most likely. Do a search on that.

 

Znypar, I am pretty sure it happens after I start the engine, I will take notice next time I drive.

I've never heard a system "wheeze"... Please describe the noise better... Is it a high pitch tone, that increases in amplitude as you accelerate?

i second that question

 

B18C_EJ8, yes, it is high pitched, just kind of sounds like the sound you get when you turn on a radio station that has a bad signal. Yes, it does increase in amplitude as you accelerate, at the same time, the sound does become less noticeable when I accelerate or turn up the volume.

Also search for Alternator Whine.

ditto. what kind of RCA interconnects are you running?
i ask this because its key to have well-shielded RCAs to keep out unwanted noise and radiation.

 

Look at your amplifier ground. My speakers were doing that because of corrison on the chassis ground.

 

chances are if your ground is corroded, your stereo just may not work in general.. but a good point and something to take a look at.

 

Re-ground your headunit and Amp.
