Default Possible different way to route the shifter cables on an H22 swap...(H22 gurus please help)

So I was thinking how to make the shifts less stiff on the prelude shifter unit I have in my civic.

Traditionally, on an H22 swap, everyone has always routed the cables under the car, and then over the crossmember support, and on up to the tranny. Routing them this way sort of puts the cables in a elongated "S" position, which I'm sure puts a little tension on them.

My theory is that if the cables have a straight shot to the tranny, the shifts will be less stiff.

Has anyone else tried this?
Do you think it's a bad idea to route the cables
through the firewall?

Seems like it might be worth doing.

Thanks

Alot of people route the cables through the firewall. It takes some custom fabrication or what I mean is just cutting a hole in the firewall.
http://www.quartersportsdrag.com/ This place offers a unique adapter plate in which you can replace your H series tranny with any B series tranny. You wont have to deal with the shiity shifter cables and you can use stock b series axles. you should check it out. im thinking about doing it

Why do you think routing the cables through the firewall is not the recommended way?

All the tutorials I've read about the H22 swap say that you should route the cables through the floor, rather than through the firewall.

?

Ok, but perhaps the prelude chassis is significantly different than the civic?

I really don't know.

I wonder if the cables are twisted in a prelude as well.

no, it goes out the floor, over the crossmember and to the tranny....i used to work at a jdm importing company and every h22 or h23 swap I had to pull out of a prelude or accord had the shifter cables going in that path

Really? That's interesting.

I wonder why Honda chose to route the cables that way.

the only difference to going through the firewall is that they would have more slack in them in the engine bay, since the total distance they travel is less. I don't think that will make the shifts less stiff though. you should get a weighted shifter if you want a better shifting feel.

Yeah...I've thought about that. That would be another reason I might route them through the firewall...it would give me more slack, which would enable me to mount the entire shifter closer to my hand, farther away from the firewall.

running them through the firewall wont affect shifts at all but it will let you mount it wherever it feels best for you at.
