dyed interiors
I have a horrible example... my cars interior was dyed when I bought it....
This might change your mind.. Unless you are a little more tasteful with your choice of scheme.

It was dyed with duplicolor vinyl dye, I couldn't get it off for crap so I swapped everything out except the door panels, which I re-dyed black.
They don't look bad, almost match the dash (except when it is freshly armoralled). Only problem is they can't be cleaned with wipes, they rip the wipes in to tiny little hairs.. The dye has held up well though.
Here is a pic of the door panels re-dyed and interior (it is without carpet for some other workI was doing).

yeah, i plan on going much less extreme. my interior is gray as it is but i would like to change it to black. my stock seats also. i know they suck(97 EX) but dont have the budget right now for new seats...saving for a turbo.
i already did the doors but i was thinking of doing the carpet and seats to match.
The re-dyed doors dont look half bad though, very glad you changed it back.

i will try to get some pix up tomorrow but i didnt dye my doors. i painted them with plastic trim paint from pep boys. i did the lower part of the doors and the center console.
I did the center console first without scuffing it and there is 2 small chips but i scuffed the doors and they are holding up great for over a year.

A guy at the local seat shop said it may be a bad idea to dye that type of material because the dye may stain your cloths. Maybe he didn't know what he was talking about, but i know he has been in the buisness for a long time. Lmk how everything goes, cus my rear seat is faded.

I am 7.5 months of proof that the duplicolor vinyl dye will work just fine if you apply it correctly. It hasn't rubbed, chipped, scratched, or anything.
And it is DEFINATELY not getting on my clothes. lol. I only did my door panels, and being a big guy, I would definately cause a noticable rub spot on the doors if that were an issue.
If you know how to prep surfaces for a good paint job, you will have no problem dying with duplicolor products.
I may take some pics up close of my door panels tomorrow if I get some time

I really really really want to do my EM1 dash black. I don't like the blueish tint in it, even though EM1s have the "dark grey" interior. The only LHD black dashes I've seen are in SiRs in South America so, really, dying would be the only option.
I just can't believe more people haven't done it so that their dash actually matches the CTR door panels.

Just my first posted pic should be enough. When I bought the car, I had intentions to come home and remove the paint... that wouldn't work. So if intentional removal won't work, accidental will be just as difficult. (if applied correctly).
For added proof, I may also take pics of that old dash. It has been sitting for 7.5 months outside next to my shed. That should be a good indication.. lol

What kind of finish does the black dye leave on the body panels? I'd consider giving it a shot if there's any way to maintain an OEM look and feel.
I do remember a thread where a guy did this to his tan 240 interior and the panels looked 100% OEM.

The finish is as smooth as stock. If I hadn't come up on the 93 dx dash, I would have done the same job to the dash without hessitation. The only issue I have with the panels is the need to clean them with spray on protectant and a cloth. The prep method I used was an alcohol rinse after lightly (VERY lightly) scuffing them with a scuff pad. This was due to the fact that mine had been previously dyed, and I wanted to make sure the dye would be able to penetrate in to the panels. That left me with a VERY slight coarse texture (not noticable to the eye, only noticable due to the tiny hairs catching on the panel from the cleaning wipes you buy in a bottle).

Don't be a moron.
How is color changing the interior ricer? If done wrong, or dis-tastefully like my first pic, I could understand. But dying the interior black is not rice, and if your ignorant *** saw a proper job in person, you wouldn't even know what you were looking at.
GTFO.

Awesome, maybe I'll hit up a junkyard and try to find a dashboard to mess around with!

Mine too.. lol.. But I have to keep the pics to show progress.. Otherise my enthusiasm about having one color interior is mis-understood.. Know what I mean? lol..
The previous owner was a complete moron ricer.. I won't go in to details, but the pic is good enough.
