100,000mile PowerTrain Warranty VOIDED? help!
So basically my head is all messed up on my 99 gsr with 79k miles.
I take it to acura and they tell me it will be covered under the 100,000 powertrain warranty. which made my day. Call me back the following day letting me know its been voided because of my intake. i looked around on the internet a little and on semas site it says it wont void ur warrant so i called up the dealership. they gave me the 1800 number and said if someone reverses it to call them back. well they didnt. they told me an intake does void the powertrain warranty.
so here i am? any advice? are they right? any way to get this reversed?
we all know an AEM intake aint causing my hurt to my car.
basically im pissed... help me out here if possible

well....i see a couple options. raise hell at the dealerships for them being jerks, have aem send (or obtain yourself from aem) something in writing stating that an intake does not void warranty, or sue aem for the cost of a new head because of false advertising.
i would get a copy of the powertrain warranty and look through the fine print and see what it all says. if there is no mention of anything that could be interpreted as an intake voiding warranty, then the dealer is obligated to honor it. they are probably, imo, just trying to dodge the free repair.

For future reference, from now on when you take your car in to have it serviced by the dealer for anything that is covered by warrenty put all of your stock **** back on. A friend of mine has to do that everytime he takes his mustang into ford, and it takes him a day and a half just to have it back to stock. But try what LSvtec03 said and read the fine print real well. Good luck.

That might work too.

Its probably already in the system that his warranty is void. Though it might work....I doubt it. BTW, did you downshift into 2nd at 90 or something?
"did u downshift into 2nd at 90 or something" accually yeah. my tranny is messed up bad and 2nd n forth for some reason the gap is ALOT smaller now... was at 8300 in 3rd threw it into 2nd.
and im pretty sure they would have it in their record...another acura dealership wouldnt work. the fine print would be in my manual which is at the dealership. just sucks that their f'in me over and theres nuthing i can do about it.

good luck fighting with acura, i tryed that when i blew up my differential. long story short, it didnt work.
btw the card exempt warranty that states will not void manufatures warranty is for the emissions warranty only. acura can void a warranty at all if you put aftermarket parts on it.
the way you might get out of this is by arguing with them, about how they said they would do the repairs for free then a day later changed there mind. its gonna be alot of hassle, but it may be worth it if you can get them to pay for the repairs.
goodluck

Well a Honda dealer down here actually sells all aftermarket parts out of their parts department. Try finding a dealership that deals with aftermarket parts and argue over there?
Simply, Acura can not do that. Nissan lost a case (forget the exact name and stuff) because they voided a warranty because of a bolt on part. That means it has set a precedent and I think even a law was made that the dealer has to prove the part is what caused the problem otherwise they need to fix it. Talk to a lawyer, you have a case, but them just hearing from your lawyer may change their mind.

Federal law sets forth requirements for warranties and contains a number of provisions to prevent vehicle manufacturers, dealers and others from unjustly denying warranty coverage. With regard to aftermarket parts, the spirit of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used(see Attachment A).The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts and technical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law.

From my understanding, if you take your aftermarket parts to the dealer and let them put them on usually they will cover it in your warranty, but of course they are going to charge you an arm and a leg.

ANY aftermarket part voids warranty(that is connected to the powertrain of course). Good luck fighting acura, it wont be easy. the idea of taking it to a dealership that sells aftermarket parts is good, but they may not have much symapthy for you either. in some cases dealerships will do warranty type of work as a goodwill, that being the warranty was voided or past due but the service(or district) manager still gets it covered, free of charge to the customer. typically happens with loyal customers, or under certain circumstances but in your case it doesnt sound like that will work.
good luck man

No he's not, the law is clearly on his side. After talking with a lawyer, if the dealership still refuses, then in a lawsuit he would win. Any half *** mechanic would know an intake will not cause damage to the head, and in court if they try and fight that, they will be ruining their reputation by showing they do not have competent mechanics.

This is the way to go. Screw that dealership. Put the stock intake on again and take it to another dealer.
