K20 or H22 race car?
Hey guys I have a 96-98 hatch that is currently in the body shop getting some love. I have a H22 to install in the car but would really like all of your opinions on the K20.
Money is not a factor at the moment due to the fact of I can buy a Type-S swap for around 2800 and I am pretty sure I could sell my H22 swap for close to that.
Well what do you guys think?

I know very little about the swap, but from what I do know you will need either a JDM ecu, or hondata with K-Pro. All of the USDM ecu's have an immobilizer that will prevent you from using them.
I would be split. From what I nkow about the k-series, they are very bad on keeping oil in the head. It depends on what kind of racing you are talking about.

I have heard that the k motors are not really the best choice for a boosted application. The head flows good but like you stated they have a oiling issue that has yet to be addressed.

I'm not jumping on the K wagon yet but there are some quick K's around. Look at then 9 second pro na cars, most are K with the exception of a couple and I know one is going from the H to the K for 2006.

Honsetly, That cheap is cheap for a k-series, but you have to look at other costs (mounts, spare parts, etc). You will get in to trouble with the motor, k-series parts are not the cheapest.

I'm biased(see sig), but I vote for K. Basic engine mods will net you more hp than the B and H series. Plus, the Type S or Type R six-speeds transmissions are awesome(if you go with the Type S, just make sure to get an LSD).
DarkKnight1 is right to ask exactly what kind of racing you'll be doing. Honestly if it's drag, I would keep my vote on the K if you're sticking to NA. But if boost is your poison then I'll have to switch to H. If it's roadracing at all, it's definatey K.
happyb16xrc, why the hate for i-vtec? You're not just hating on that damn-economy i-vtec(K20A3) are you?

I really like the k motors but from experience I really really like the H motors. They are pretty abundant, reasonably cheap, and easy to work on. I know the k puts down pretty good power but hell my h22a1 put down 193 at the wheels with nothing but a header and a chipped p28. I cant really argue with those numbers.

I understand your bias, but I would not go with a k-series for road racing. Unless you have a limitless supply of money to replace them. All I hear is about how they are terrible at keep oiled, and in a road race aspect, you'll be replacing that motor all the time.
H-Series w/ GSR Tranny w/ LSD would be my choice. Or at the very least, a high FD for the H-series tranny.

I find this funny because the 6 speeds suck for drag. Both of my friends swapped out their six speeds for 5 speeds.
Bang for the buck the H kicks ***.
