Default Team Chaotic Project *Honda Civic SI* ZC Motor?

Hey Guys I have a Honda Civic SI 90 Hatchback

heres the story

We bought a motor from some guy that told me to come here and check...he sold a D16A1 Motor and called it a Zc motor now i understand that this is Not a ZC motor and that the motor mounts are different....

what i need to know is this....

1. Will this motor work in this car(we keep getting yes and no's)?

2. Can we change the mounts (we keep hearing we can)

3. Is it worth it?

4. If not does anyone know sombody looking to buy this motor (or on ebay) we have to install in the car they want? ($500)

5. can anyone get their hands on a GENUINE ZC motor and how much?

thanks guys

a real zc will bolt right in, you can use your si tranny, and shift linkage. axles, and stuff. you would need the ecu though.

Go ahead and get the trans too.... you won't regret it. The ZC trans is even sportier(shorter geared) than the Si

::: off topic ::: People still do the "team thing"??? Or are you talking about a legitimate "race team"? I'm doubting the from the sound of your inexperience that you are part of an actual race/build team.......No disrespect...Just wondering

Good luck With the project

you can buy the engine without getting the transmission - the Si transmission is better for accleration anyway due to it's 4.25 final drive - as of this morning Hmotorsonline does not have the DOHC ZC you need - try here:

Noyan is the shiznit and mark is the man there. I used to live like 10 miles from them up in VA. Their motors always look great and even when i had a problem with a dizzy and a TB on another motor, they fixed the problem with a quickness. Its nice to go there and drool over the badass front clips they carry too Just thought i would chime in and give my feedback on them. Its nice when u can find a local importer so u can go check the place out and pick the motor u want.

To clearify a bit. The D16a1 is the Integra motor that came in 86-89 integras I believe. The ZC DOHC motor came in 89-91 CRX SI's in Japan. Not sure if they put them in the Hatch's or not. The motor mounts for the ZC bolt right in( I would know look at my sig ) The D16a1 does not. Most people on here know that but a few say that the D16a1 is a ZC but it IS NOT! Oh for the ECU you can use the 89 Integra PG7 ecu it works just fine but runs abit rich. Athough wise get the PM7 ecu which is a bit rare.

i strongly recommend a cable to hydro conversion and then the 92-95 SI transmission, or the 96-2000 EX transmission or the 96-98 SI transmission, this cable clutch bullshit sucks

1. pointless to convert to hydro when he has an si trans already
why would he want to spend 400 bucks on something that will do him no
good whatsoever

2. There's no such thing as a 96-98 Si

This is true, and I like the gear ratio of the SI trans is the newer one any better is that why you would want to switch? The only reason I would is becuase of LSD.

im pretty sure they made civic SI's from 96-98...remember they are really ugly with the d16y8.

they have a better gear ratio, stronger shift forks, and hydro clutch is just more reliable...and a cable-hydro conversion is only like 110

I know they had them in canada..their 96-98 si is like our EX,,and their 99-00 SIR civic is basically the same as our 99-00 SI civic

I don't see it being worth it unless he was going to go b-series or maybe d series vtec. I don't have any issues with reliablity and I take plenty of civics with my cable tranny (just a bit of fun but you make a good point)
