Default 94 Integra w/ Automatic Tranny --> when cold, tranny engages HARD!!!

have a 94 integra ls. has an auto transmission. When the car is just started after been sitting for a while (the engine cold), when i shift into reverse or drive, the tranny engages really HARD and provided this STRONG KICK!!! It does it when its warm, but not nearly as bad.

What would be the problem?

Had the same issue, I changed my fluid 3 times (drain +refill) and fixed it. Also might be your engine mounts checkem!

well its my friends car and im looking to buy it for my gf. but i notice this problem has gotten worse on his car. and I want to make sure that it is nothing serious before i buy it.

I thought it maybe just needs a tranny oil change. do they have transmission filters?

And my friend really doenst beat on it. he's not into cars or anything, and just pays to have all his things done/changed (regular tune ups, etc...)

if hes paid to get all the tune up and maintanance done, someone shouldve already replaced the transmission fluid.. But Id reccomend doing that.

Yes and No.. I mentioned that to him today, and he said "Well I had my Oil changed last week" (meaning his engine oil... he had no idea there was transmission oil and that it needs to be changed)

-- since he's got cash, i told him to take it to Acura to have it checked out

it has to do with the cold start up and maybe old fluid proly thicker from sludge ect. when a tranny is cold it has twice the pressure with cold fluid and all and especially reverse is twice as bad. i had an old prelude that did that i just let it warm up all the way and it was fine.
