Default d15 beater fun

besides swapping engines or turboing or anything that involes more than 300 dollars(besides setting my beater on fire or rolling it off a cliff)
whats the best way to squeeze like 10 to 20 more horsies out of my little old civic?
i bought the car for 500 bucks and had it now for a year, now im looking for really dumb ways to make it not so much of a turd.

it is a beater so anything done has to be cheap any suggestions?
(like using different injectors or id go as far as a hotter cam)

Drill a bunch of holes in the exhaust pipe just in front of the muffler. It's free, it makes your car louder, and it might just give you an extra horsepower or two. If you have to pass an emission test, go buy a muffler bandage to wrap around the holes. Then after you pass the test, pull the bandage off or redrill the holes.

I/H/E

Intakes are cheap as hell. You could just buy a cheap (make sure it's not paper, get cotton or foam or whatever that can suck in air nicely) cone filter for around $40, and make your own CAI tubing with 2" ABS tubes from home depot which would cost like $15 for 10 feet of tubing and all the 45 degree bends or whatever. That's a good 5hp right there. Cheap headers can be had from ebay for like $70 including shipping, say another 5hp. Now you've broke the 100hp mark with boltons on that beastly D15. Buy a cheap straight through muffler (like $50 for a cheapass one) and get it welded for like $50 at a shop, boom we're looking at another 5hp give or take, and you'll be making 105hp! If you really want some gains from the exhaust you can try replacing the cat with a high flow one ($50?) and get bigger mandrel bent piping (2.5") installed on that badboy, but that could be pricey.

sorry to seem like oscar the grouch but youd be wasting money trying to make any horsepower out of a dual point-fuel injected motor, besides, the only credible single cams ive seen came accompanied by these neat little gadgets called turbos..

i like the idea of an si cam swap, what the hell is an mpfi swap,
and its not daul point injection. it has four injectors right accross the top of the manifold like on any newer honda engine.

single cams can make lots of power, i have a 2000 d16y8 making 305 hp @ 15psi

That whip of yours is MAD tight. So is a MPFI converted 1.5 or the stock 1.6 from an EX?

i have seen the dual points before, but this car has always had these injectors on it, the kid before me couldnt tell a ratchet from his **** and he said some old lady owned it before him, so unless she was a tuner i think it came stock this way..
i dont no much about these older civics, im more into the 96-00 years
i cant even see the engine code on the block its so old and coroded

it used to be gold, the kid that had it before me rear ened two people after the first one he sourced a gold hood from the bone yard, then smashed someone again two weeks later, thats when i got the car,

im not looking to make it a three hundred horse power car, more of a learning experence. get me into the older style alittle bit. who knows maybe for some crazy reason ill do the whole car, not likely though.

the idea with the si cam sounds good. any one got any feed back on that? thats exactly what im looking for (to see what easy to find, cheap parts that would inter change from other hondas to make some kind of wanna be fast car)

an si cam is out of a d16A6, your car is an EX so it already has a D16A6 in it, so swapping that cam would be pointless.

nope unless its not the original motor its definatley a D16. Si hatches, Si CRX's and EX 4 doors all came with D16A6's. the rest of the models (DX,LX,HF,STD) came with D15B2,6,7's.

i dont doubt you got parts for a D15, the both basically share the same parts for example the plugs, wires, cap/rotor, timing belts, head gasket, intake/exhaust gaskets etc are all the same.
