Default h23 tranny top speed

I searched but could'nt find it. I've got a chance to pick up a fresh rebuilt h23 tranny from a freind for 200$ for my turbo project and am curious the difference in top speed.

right now this is what I'm at with an h22 tranny
60mph 3200rpm in 5th gear
147mph 7500rpm in 5th gear

would like to know where a h23 tranny sits

i guarantee some guy would have gotten get pissed at you for taking your car to 147 mph (if you did it on a public road), and i may be wrong but i think the gearing is shorter..reasoning behind this is that when alot of guys do h22 swaps into their si's they have a problem with staying in Vtec from 1st gear to 2nd.....

The reason for that is they fall out of vtec from longer gears. so you will have a higher top speed. 2nd I never said I did 147mph or if I did it if it was on public roads or closed course. I did'nt intend to make this a political battle, I'm not an idiot.

You don't know the answer to my question so you should'nt have posted anything but anyways. Back to square one. Does anyone know the top speed on an h23 tranny at 7500rpms?

H23 has a revlimit at 6800. I've never done a top speed, but i believe that at 60mph the revs are right around 3000.

if you go to google and search for "transmission gear speed converter" you will see a lot of online programs that will display MPH @ xxxx RPMs. i took the gear ratios for the 5th gen VTEC and JDM 4th gen prelude Si (i think the USDM Si gear ratios in the chart are wrong, they look too close to the 5th gen VTEC) and put them in and heres what i got:

5th gen VTEC - 155mph @ 7500
4th gen Si - 173mph @ 7500

and you have to remember that stock gauge clusters are always a little off. but then whats better, having a higher top speed with longer gears or better acceleration with shorter gears? i don't think you will ever need gears like that unless you have a crazy amount of HP, like 400whp. theres a reason that sports cars have shorter gears...

I'll be above that bracket when the new motor goes in. Here's my current setup

Assuming a tire size of 24":
h22a1 tranny
7500rpm=145.65mph

h23a tranny
7500rpm=154.59mph

To get numbers that other guy quoted u in 5th gear, you will have to be running 27.2" tires...which I guarantee will be wrong.

Try to match it more for mph in 4th for drag racing purposes...and since you will probably be using 24.5" or 26" slicks, the speeds will be different.

The 5th gen tranny is good for 152-153, or so the speedometer reads.

you're missing a nut on the passanger side shock top

nice looking car, I know that on a h23 tranny in 5th at 120mph the car still has room to go

i used the stock 205/50-16 tires when the calculations where made. c61lude, you should google the program i was talking about and put in all the info you will be using. using the tire size you plan on running you can get mph in for any gear at any rpm.

not that it really matter to the topic, but the stock 205/60/16 tires would be 24.7" tall.

I put a copy of the program that was done by Greg Nakano that I use on my website...

Click on the "Gearing calc" link on the top of this page to use it:

well its mod the car or sell it. There is no in between for me and has never been. I go all out in everything I do , whats the point in doing it at all if I'm not going to do it all and do it right
