crx aftermarket cruise?

i have about 5-6 500+ trips this years in the crx did it last year and it was a "pita"
wanna make it easier with an aftermarket crusie control no rigging anything up and making it work just plain and simple nothing special
so if anyone knows of any models and makes that would work really well then hit reply or pm me

Use an OEM civic sedan system.
I just converted to it. It's not too terribly bad.
I had to do a 5 speed conversion, and convert to 90/91 dashboard wiring at the same time, and that was much harder than the actual cruise control swap.
I've NEVER seen an aftermarket cruise control system that worked good. And they are always ugly.
You can get all the CC parts from a junkyard for anywhere from $50-100.

im not worried on the looks of anything ill take it out when not on trips lol....but is there a write up on this civic sedan controller? if i have no other options then i will go the junk yard route and rip apart a sedan then

I used to install aftermarket cruise control and they are OK. They can be a PITA too. If you don't go with a stock Civic Cruise you will have to do some modifications with an aftermarket kit.

Well I've never seen an aftermarket cruise control system that's cheaper than $150. Then you've still got to wire it up.
The OEM cruise control system only uses 13 wires...it's pretty easy to wire up. All the wires are color coded and I've still got the wiring chart.
You're going to need the cruise control actuator (under hood), the brain...mounts on the heater box, and a 90/91 civic sedan gauge cluster. It's actually quite simple and there's already a write up on it here somewhere.

I've got a VERY nice OEM diagram of the entire cruise circuit if someone is interested in doing this.
The diagram he's got here on his site isn't quite as clear and concise IMO. Very useful information though!

To add to the subject, you don't exactly just pop it in and out of your vehicle when taking road trips. It's not something you plug in your cigarette lighter.

Why would you need that?
The only thing you may need is an EX cruise control cable if you've got an Si.

I didn't want to resize this becuase I was afraid it'd lose some clarity. You can see that it's a little beat up from me using it.

Some notes on the Cruise Control Switch and the Cruise Control Actuator.
Cruise Control Switch:
#2 (black and yellow) goes to fuse # 14 in the fusebox. You can opt instead to splice this into A10 on your 90/91 civic gauge cluster. There's actually many places you can get this signal from.
#8 (black) is a regular ground. I don't know why they don't show it, but I have the other diagram and it eventually leads to a ground.
#3 (red) and #7 (red and black) go to your dimmer switch or radio or clock....the circuit goes just about everywhere in the dashboard harness. Just splice them in matching up the colors at any of these places.
Cruise Control Unit:
#5 (blue and black) goes to the gauge cluster. It's the 3rd plug in the gauge cluster. It's a small blue plug right on the backside of the cluster with like 4 wires in it. Match it up to the blue and black wire at this location. You are going to have to have a 90/91 Civic sedan w/cruise control gauge cluster for this. If you notice in TJ's write-up, he somehow retrofitted this assembly onto the backside of a regular Civic hatch gauge cluster. It's MUCH easier IMO to just use the entire Sedan gauge cluster instead.
#6 (blue) goes to A12 at your gauge cluster. This is the tach lead.
#7 (yellow and red) goes to B2 of your gauge cluster. This is the speed pulser.
If you have any more questions, just ask. The rest of the diagram should be fully labeled, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Just wanted to say this swap is actually pretty easy. It took me forever to do because at the same time I had to convert to 90/91 dashboard wiring instead of 88/89...and that proved to be quite a huge PITA.
If you've got a 90/91 Civic already...you can do this conversion in a few hours.

I know it's not the best thing but I actually run one of these both in my Jeep and Civic. I originally installed it in the Jeep since offroad when your rock crawling it is hard to keep a steady foot also it's kinda tricky to work 3 pedals with only 2 feet. I learned quickly that it can also be used for cruise control on the hwy. Here is a link installing it on a truck but they are all basically the same. As for price it cost me under $20.00 for all the parts.
