Default Help With Timing Belt

yesterday i was going to the beach and i had cruise set to 58. i started going down a small hill and i felt my car shake then when i tried to back up it wouldnt gain the speed back like its supposed to do. after i got up the hill it started shaking then i heard a snap or somethin. i put it in neutral and it cut off. thinking might be timing belt. any suggestions?

Very helpful

First pull off the timing cover or the valvecover - it should be on the drivers side of the engine.
If it isn't on, its snapped.
The next thing you want to do is pull the valve cover, and the head - and have it inspected for bent valves - and head warpage.
Next, you fix whatever is wrong - put the head and valvecover on - it might be a smart idea to take this time to put on new spark plugs or whatever. Get a new timing belt - and bounce.

how was that not helpful? If you take the valve cover off and the belt isnt there it broke.....i didnt know i had to tell the exact location and everything. if you dont know where it is then might as well not even begin try to fix it.

How many miles are on it? Could have been the crank.

yeah i was in 5th gear and it has the h23 in it with around 166,000 miles so yeah id say it was about time for a new one cause i have no idea when it was last changed. im hoping i can buy me a new belt myself and put it on without having to get a valve job and head work and all that crap.
