Default JDM 4.7 or ATS 4.9 F/D

Is the $600 difference in cost better spent on something else? or is the 4.9 worth the money over the JDM 4.7?

IMO yes it's worth every penny. But if your one of those squemish about the RPM's on the highway go for the JDM 4.7

buddy has a 4.9 and he loves. not as bad as i had expected to be, even on the freeway, but then again i already run a 4.7. in any case, 4.9 will make up for our torque-less wonders!

verdict says: GET IT

Hey Chuck, this is Greg (SpoonEK9) from JDMUniverse! I've been wondering the same thing about it. Where can I get the 4.9 at? I definitely want to go with that, b/c I really won't do any freeway driving.

What would be interesting to see is a compairison of the differences in acceleration of the 4.7 verses the 4.9. Does anybody have a vid like this?

Depends. What RPM your currently at. Let's just say to make a pass on the highway you no longer have to down shift.

Had I stayed N/A I was seriously considering the ATS F/D.

depends on what tranny FD you start with. If you have a ITR/B16 4.4 tranny the 4.78 is a nice upgrade. If you have a 4.78 the 4.9 is only about 200-300rpm different

On the dyno, I think I hit 143 or so.

Here's a vid, the 5th gear pull is somewhere in there. You can pick out the speed for both redline and VTEC, but keep in mind the stock tach is off a bit. 8500 fuel cut/5700vtec, stock ITR ecu.

With the Helms manual and some common sense, sure can. It's not to hard. Just do like I do and every bracket or part you take off, make sure you put the bolts/nuts with it and put it somewhere. This way you won't end up with extra or missing parts during the job.

its really not that huge of a difference on a 4.78 tranny.
my 4.9 is only about 200-300rpm different than my friends stock 4.78
But to the 4.9's defense it sure did feel well at Streets of Willow
