technical-timing issue-
Hi, this is my first post,
My brother owns a 95 accord (my former car), and we recently did the timing belt at 180k, now everything seems fine, no missfiring, hard starting, dieseling, or anything of that sort started right up, The manual specs timing at 13-17 btdc, the problem is we can only get 5 btdc with the distributor fully advanced. I used a wire to short the scs connector, then went onto the timing. What could this be? like i said before this car does not manifest anything a car with messed up timing would, and im out of ideas since advancing the distributor gear a bit wont work on these cars. Also it specifies the idle must be correct but i cant remember the procedure to set the idle again. Thanks any help is appreciated

Are you using a timing light with an advance dial? If so, you sight for the single mark at TDC.
Or set the dial to zero, & sight for the set of 3 marks.
If you sight for the set of 3 marks & ALSO use the advance dial on the timing light, you're advancing twice. Like for example you just set it for about 20 deg...

First off do not waste your time shorting out anything when you set timing not needed,,,,,,,
secondly if you cannot get the right timing you got the timing belt at least a tooth off,
put car on tdc # 1 , remove the valve cover and make sure the cam pulley alignment lines are even with the head....
