Default 4th gen gauge el gauge cluster conversion (searched)

has anyone actually installed the 94-96 el gauge cluster into a 92-93, but without the 94-96 dash harness. All i can find on the forums was people who did the conversion but WITH the harness. The only helpful information i can find is this: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=428055. The write-up from PO.com just tell you the function of each wire in the harness, but what do i have to do exactly to get this thing working? The write-up seems as if it's basically plug-n-play except for like 3 wires. Is this true?

i have been searching for an answer for this myself. i finally caved and got the dash harness on ebay

i would have to say that from the looks of it, it was worth $20 to save myself the searching and searching and worrying and cutting and splicing.

i might as well do the same and buy the dash harness on eBay or see if they have one from a local junkyard. I didn't know they the dash harness would be that cheap so i guess that $20 is worth saving the time.

thats exactly what i said to myself. imean im good at wiring and could figure it out, but im extremely lazy and just replacing something for cheap rather than thinking and splicing its well worth it to me.

It wasn't that hard at all to put my el gauge cluster in. There were like 10 wires at most that I had to splice and connect and they were all colored so all I did was match them up with the invertor box wiring. Only thing that bothers me is that I can't figure out how to have a memory on my trip odometer. It restarts everytime I start the car.

actually, on second thought, i have the 92-93 fog light tweeter switch and i don't want to get rid of that so i have no choice but to keep the my dash harness and modify it. Hey Projectwidow, do you have a write-up or something to help me out with the install? Thanks

bump

i won an auction for the the USDM el gauge cluster (w/ inverter unit and the harness connecting the the cluster and the inverter; NO 94-96 dash harness). I haven't received it in the mail yet but do the connectors from my 92-93 harness plug in directly into the 94-96 el gauge cluster unit? (and i just have modify the wiring from my stock connectors?). I don't seem to understand the write-up from the link i posted above (because from the write-up it seems as if i need the connectors from the 94-96 with a little wiring attached to them in order to attach them to my 92-93 harness). anyone?

lol i havent even got mine yet and i may be selling it if your interested..

back to topic though, from what i understand, your just supposed to top the stock wires into the corresponding wires that come out of the cluster. supposedly its just supposed to be color matching.

does that mean i'm going to need the connector plugs from the harness that connects to the 94-96 el gauge cluster? or are my 92-93 stock connector plugs directly fit into the 94-96 el gauge cluster? (and i just have to modify the wiring). From the write-up link i listed above, is says this
"You have to know how to solder if you don't have some extra harness clips that fit into the gauges because the 92-93 dash harness doesn't have all the required clips."
Since i don't have the connector plugs from the harness of the 94-96 el gauge cluster, does this mean i have to solder the wires (from my 92-93 harness) straight to the pins on the el gauge cluster?

the 94-96 harness has two adapter because of the mileage being in digital and nthe 92-93 has only one adapter

You will have all the connectors you need but 2

One you can get fron the power mirror or window connector of a junk/parts car the other I don't know. I read about this once and considered doing it myself but without the harness it seems like 2 much of a hassell. Good Luck

I have two questions:
1. I have the 92-93 tweeter mounted fog light switch so would i be able to keep my fog light switch if i decided to get the 94-96 harness?
2. I know that not all the 94-96 preludes came with an EL gauge cluster so i was wondering if their dash harnesses are the same (the 94-96 prelude w/ an el gauge cluster and the 94-96 preludes that didn't have an el gauge cluster)? for example, would i be able to use a 94-96 dash harness (that didn't have an el gauge cluster) for my car?

i decided what im going to do. i took out my current non-EL gauge cluster and noticed the spacing on the pins. I build computers so i noticed that the spacing on the pins looked similar to the spacing on the fan pins on a computer motherboard. I have many computer parts laying around so i tried putting in a 3 pin motherboard fan connector into my gauge cluster. It slid into the pins quite nicely and fit like a glove. I have tons of these 3 pin fan connectors so i'm going to try and custom make my own connectors for the el gauge cluster. I haven't received my el gauge cluster in the mail yet, but i was wondering if anyone knows how many rows and pins are in each of these two connectors you guys mentioned about (for example: if one of the connectors is a 10 pin, is it a 10 pin straight across or a two row pin with 5 pins in each row; i hope that makes sense). I want to custom make these connectors of time before i get the el gauge cluster in the mail. Also, i will make sure to take pictures of the install step by step (basically make a writeup) for those of you how are thinking about doing the same.

btw how should one fit JDM el cluster? the USDM cluster is positioned on the left side and have a slope to the opposite tirection as the JDM one. I mean front plastic shield.

Thus 2 questions come up:
-is the difference in cover only, so you can just install cover from your old cluster?
-if not, how to solve this issue?

Some more.
-Is all the el clusters sold on ebay meant to be sold together with invertor box?
-How much an invertor box separately (approx.)?
How hard is it to find EURO el cluster?

Thanks!

i finally got my el gauges in the mail today and i was able to do the swap without the 94-96 wire harness. It was actually not that difficult. I had a 2 and a half hour break between my classes and i was able to finish it within that period. The only problem i'm having right now is that my trip mileage keeps on reseting everytime i turn off and restart the car. I connected pin 8 (on harness H) to some aqua green looking wires (i believe it was the middle wire out of the 5 wires on the dash clock harness) but it still resets. Does anyone else who did the swap without the 94-96 harness having the same problem or did i connect the wrong "light green" wire to pin 8?

Would you please write some kind of report of how did you do all the work?

What you had before (cluster, invertor box (?), etc)?
What did you connect where?
etc.

This would be quite useful for those who intend to do that (like me )

Thanks in forward!
