Ignition Timing Problem
To start off with I have a 1991 Honda CRX HF D15B6. I just wired the thing up and got it running because the previous owner tried to fix a wiring problem and ended up messing all kinds of stuff up. Anyways it is running now but I need to adjust the ignition timing. With my jumper wiring connected to the pin to put the ECU in test mode and my Test light on Cly 1, I cant get the timing on the crank anywhere near the three tick marks for timing. The crank marks are too far right of what they are supposed to be. When I retard the timing as much as possible with the distributor the crank marks are still far right of where they should be. I am guessing my timing belt slipped on the cam sprocket or something. Any ideas is this is true or any other causes that I might be able to look into would be great. Thanks, Zack
Ya know i thought i was the only one with this problem until i read your post, but i have an msd ignition set up, and i havent gotten it timed neither due to this problem, but i found out that it is not a mechanical placement of the cam or the crank, but something with the distributor itself because i had to rebuild it right before i installed the msd ignition.
I also thought it might have been the ecu advancimg the ignition timing too far through the ignition module itself, unfortunatly i have no way of telling whether the ecu is at fault or if the new module is at fault, so i have been playing the guessing game. when you retard the timing as far as it goes, it spits out ecu code 4 telling me the tdc position sensor is failing, but it couldnt be, so i had checked the distance from the magnet to the coil with a feeler gauge and it read to what the service manual says for specs.
Im still in the dark on this problem, but im actually trying a different set of spark plug wires due to too much resistance because theres alot of radio iterference, but that would retard rather then advance it, so im still lookin for an answer.
