Default I think im going to cry...

well after about two months of working 60 hrs a week at my job and spending every other waking moment transferring parts from my old shell to my new one i finally got my pride and joy up and running... the only parts i hadnt swapped over yet were the rear seats and my rear suspension which is what i did today... after i did that i wanted to take her for a little "joy ride" and test out everything to make sure all was good... about a mile from my house i turned onto a local road with a lot of curves and proceeded to accelerate at a pretty decent rate... as i downshifted into second i opened her up as i was entering the first turn and at approx. 5k rpms all i heard was the sound that nobody likes- i threw a rod... i proceeded to pull off the road and open the hood to find a nice sized hole right under the number 1 cylinder... got her started back up and got her home and now she will sit most likely a few more weeks while i get her a new heart... i will post up a few pics as soon as they transfer to my email... sorry its so long but im so frustrated with my luck on this project and this is the first motor i have blown

Damn, I had near the same experience last year. I had just gotten everything swapped for the old shell to the new shell. About 2 wks later, I lost compression in the #4 cylinder and my block cracked.

The only thing I can say is stay with it. Once you've swapped your engine a couple of times. You can almost do it in your sleep, hella fast.

yeah i know this will be my third swap... dont worry i am sticking with it... ive owned nothing but EF's and will drive nothing else... well except for my stepdad's gas guzzling V8 until i can get the new motor in lol... im still in shock and i have this numb feeling all over my body- weird... ive searched on car-part.com for z6's around the miami area and the cheapest i can find is $550... thats a little steep for me right now but i like the idea of a warranty... i keep thinking that this is going to happen with the new motor as soon as i get it running... one question though- how easy is it to make a y8 obd-1? what all is involved? could i just swap all my sensors, injectors, and dizzy from my current motor to the y8 and get it running good? and what motor would handle boost better- another z6 or y8? i have an entire kit in my room that im ready to put on the new motor... thanks for all the help guys

Just, to answer one of your questions, swap the injectors, dizzy, alternator, etc. from the old motor. I think most of the sensors on the new motor, ie knock, and temperature, should work.

lol...putting boost on stock motor might make you more then cry next time if you scatter it...I be sure to get a warranty...also member warranty usually they come inspect it while motors in your car if something where to go wrong...Believe me I got a motor from Atarco here in cali and I had tranform it all back to stock and take nitrous all the way out....

Nitrous is for people afraid of real power.

Too bad you threw a rod. I blew up an LS Vtec once. I still have the one rod we threw thru the block somewhere...I should take a picture.

and heres one of the car:

i cant bring myself to go out and look again but it looks as though the rod made a nice hole in the back of the block also

nothing... its a little mod i did... take the spoiler off and then with it off put the two rear nuts back on and bolt the spoiler back on with the two front nuts... it mounts the spoiler at a more aggressive angle... not everyone likes it but i do

Terrible luck...

Are you sure your engine wasn't trying to run away from those god-awful wheels? Get a D16A6 block next time....

haha whats wrong with the wheels? i like them lol... whats so great about the a6 block rather than a z6 or y8? im trying to get one of the newer motors in hopes of them having fewer miles and therefore being a little more reliable

I know that there is proof somewhere that the A6 has stronger castings, but I cannot find it. I do know however that several teams run A6 blocks with boost applications because it is said to be the strongest block. It's a widely held belief, but I don't have the info in front of me to back it up... several years ago I may have.

Paint the wheels silver again, and ditch that fender!

im rethinking the carbon fiber fenders... dont really go well with my style... i will most likely sell them to some ricer for twice the amount i paid for them and paint my stock ones to match(they are primered right now) but the wheels are staying!! im going to do my research on the A6 block... the car will be used as a dd that is autox'd regularly... can the A6 block handle long periods of time in the upper rpm's?

omg what a coincedence!! thats what happened with my old shell and thats what made me decide to get a new shell(since i was pulling the motor out i might as well get a rust free shell to put it in) needless to say after about 10 miles of stop and go traffic my clutch was burnt to hell lmao... thanks guys youve made this a lot easier to deal with

Rural Ohio...

But i've heard that the A6 is strongest, and since they're the cheapest, that won't hurt.

oh gee that narrows it down quite a bit... lol i think you MIGHT HAVE changed my mind... if my head is still good ill just pull the z6 head off and put it on an a6 block... compression would be good with that setup correct?

According to this calculator, http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...c.php
Compression would be at 9.713 assuming you use the A6 pistons, oem head gasket etc. It would be pretty good for boost as far as compression goes.
