f22 pull, pull tranny too?
So I'm thinking I'm going to replace the motor in my 92 Accord. Do I need to pull the tranny with the motor or can I just pull the motor and leave the tranny still in the car? It's an automatic.
It's a matter of personal preference.
I find it easier, not only removing and installing; but mating the two together while they're both out of the engine bay.
Most likely, the path you take will be based on what tools you have at your disposal.

I always pull the whole assembly then swap the transmission over outside the car. it's much easier that way. drop the whole thing right out the bottom of the car.
I would leave the trans in.Just remember to take off the torque converter cover/flywheel cover underneath the car.then take free all of the torque converter bolts first. Then take off the ps pump alternator and take free the ac compessor if you have it(but don't take the ac lines free unless your ready for a freon recharge)
.And a big help is to take off the harmonic balancer that will give you enough room.It should be an 18mm bolt and thier is an acces hole in the drivers side inner fender.
And one other thing. If the replacement engine doesnt have an intake manifold on it you can just take the one loose thats on the car and then hold it up with a bungee cord out of the way like on the windshield and leave as many vacum lines and other things as you can without putting them in danger of being broken plugged in.
to me leaving the trans in is alot easier because you don't have to take the trans fluid lines free or take the axels out or anything

you still need to remove the axles if you're going to take the motor out, regardless if you leave the transmisson on or not. It's SOOO much easier to unbolt, detach, and reinstall the transmission when the whole engine assembly is not in the car. there is no reason to remove the crank pulley either just pull the whole thing out and work on it with all the room in the world.
Well thats your opinion. But Ive swapped engines a few times. And you don't have to take the axels out.But you do need to take the crank pulley off if your going to leave the trans in so there will be enough room to pull the engine out from the top.If you don't the inner fender gets in the way when you slide the engine over to clear the guide pins on the engine and trans

Yeah I agree with you on that.If I had a lift Id drop the engine out from underneath to.Ive heard of people taking the engine and trans free and then just lifting the car up off of it with a hoist but Ive never done it
that's how I do it - disconnect everything except L & R motor mounts, let the car down so the motor's sitting on a dolly, unbolt the last 2 mounts, lift car up over motor & pull motor out. I use an engine hoist to lift the front of the car up over the motor, don't even need a lift.
