disconnect it from the tranny...

on a more serious note, i dont think u can fully get rid of the rattle. maybe your bushings are worn out? the rattle is going to be there wether you like it or not

Is it an OEM or aftermarket shift ****?
I had an aftermarket shift **** in my car, and the holding screws kept loosening. Eventually I just chucked the POS in the trash and put my stock one back on, no problems since

it might be that ur shift lever is hitting your exhaust. If it really is the ****, just look at other posts.

i am running skunk 2 shifter with an 05 si shift ****. when i put my hand on the **** the vibrating sound stops. Just don't know how to muffle it, seems like the exhaust vibrates it even though it doesnt touch it

FYI. Most of the skunk2 shifter owners complain about this same problem. The problem is, the throw is 'shortened' moving the shifter lower.. this coupled w/ a larger diameter exhaust usually causes clearance issues.

I have the same prob since i took off my si **** w/ clip and replaced it with my skunk2 **** w/ original plastic ring on the boot. I'm always playing with it so that it won't rattle, and I've been toying with the idea of slapping on a black scrunchy (girly hair band things) to wedge the ring around the base of the ****. Just have to get a round to looking for one thats small enough to work.

get under the car and check to see if the bolt on the shift linkage has come loose at all. Every once in a while mine will start to rattle and if I tighten that bolt a little bit it goes away.

HAHA, no you need to put some rubber O-rings in between where the short shifter and the shift linkage bolt together. That's all. Trust me my B&M did it too and I just had to put the little red Orings that I didn't know why they were in the box on and it stopped immidiately. It does it again though now since I did my swap and they tore....

Look, you can listen to everyone here trying to solve your rattling problem, but ultimately you have got to do your work to find the source of the rattling. Once you find the source, we can then provide some valid solutions.
