Default Legend auto tranny

Is there a oil filter in the auto tranny on the Legend? I'm going to change the tranny oil and I dont know if it has a filer so I can replace.

There is a filter in the trans, but there isn't any scheduled replacement interval for it. Most people leave it alone and just change the fluid, but it's up to you. Fluid change by itself is a simple drain/fill, filter change requires dropping the pan.

actually there is no pan to drop. the filter is located in the tranny and the only way to replace it is to open up the actual tranny. that means yanking it out of the car and then putting it back in. yep just change the fluid

Normally that is the case on Hondas, however the 2nd gen Legends and first gen RL's have a removable pan that allows access to the valve body and filter. I assume he was referring to the 2nd gen Legends since he mentioned the filter, if he has a first gen then you would be correct.

So, you don't have to take the tranny out on the 2nd generation Legend? Just drop the pan?

I have a 2nd Gen. 94 4 door auto. I'm only keeping it auto because I'm going to give the car to my sis. I want to get a 96 Lexus GS. I lost the 1st gen Lexus. Ok thanks guys for the info, I'm going to do a full tune up on the car before handing it down.

Your best bet would be to take it somewhere to get a complete flush with a fluid exchange machine. Just make sure they use Honda/Acura ATF to refill. Usually costs around $69-$129 but may be more with Honda Fluid.

you guys didn't take autotech101? Auto trannies usually arent a "flush and fill" because of all the stuff in there, you usually need a pump, thats why a shop needs to pump out the old stuff and put in the new stuff.

Approx. 3 qts for a drain and fill.

and again, the proper fluid change is a "flush" as mentioned above.

normally a oil change is sufficient, but a flush is the way to go. when you drop oil and refill, you still have alot of oil burned oil in the casing and not to mention the fluid that's in the oil cooler and lines..

when you flush, you use up to 15 qt's and literally siphon everything out, and replenish it with sparkling new oil. MMM MMmmmm
