Get longer bolts, and put some spacers on the hinges. If your hood flies up, it ain't my fault.

The purpose:
A. To let hot air out from the engine bay, increase cooling.
B. Just for show

Most people just do it for show.

The funny thing that it actually works.

It's cowl induction. Air doesn't come out of the back of the hood, it's sucked in.

oh yeah, you know on what they used that **** on first?

Fucken old chrysler police cars. They had issues with overheating. Guess what? Cheap solution. raise the rear of the hood up.

Yeah it doesn't do ****. Proven by who???

Alot of guys with ITB's do this to increase air flow under the hood. Apparently it helps with induction into the TB's when you have them facing towards the firewall. If you have a normal air induction system it is in the same category as Alteeza's and fart cannons.

I believe it has to do with hood clearance against the valve cover.

Thats the proper use. Anytime you have Carbs or throttle bodies this can be useful. however, its really not that effective. Routing tubing from a vent in the fender are works best because of the pressure difference. Either way though.

This was idea was made hugely popular by the AE86 crowd in the early 90's.

Doesnt do anything if you arn't moving.

It does work if you are. My buddies integra would run way to hot in the bay until he propped it up up. He only did it about half an inch or so, but it definatly helps.

There was a kid on here with a SOHC Turbo pushing about 300 whp who was using about 2" spacers. He needed them not only for clearance on the manifold, but he said it drastically helped with engine bay heat.

I'd like to see the charts prooving them wrong.

serves a lot more purposes than just ITBs.

I agree though, It does look tacky if your doing it without purpose. I can accept it for a fully built n/a or turbo car, but not on your stock d15b7; even if it is a power machine.

Lets see.... 300dollar radiator.... and another 100 in fans.... or 1buck in bolts/spacers... tough one...

I did this on my turbo beater to relieve some of the underhood heat. It also by a side product allowed me to cram a large wastegate onto the top of an HF manifold and allow it to barely clear the hood . Its ugly... but I don't care... its functional.
