Default To save or not to save

So basically I picked up this 1988 CRX DX from a friend of mine for $15. This car has had a rough life, it's changed hands many times and apparently never had an owner that's taken real good care of it or really known what they're doing.

Here's a list of parts I know it's missing:

Gas tank
Pass. Side Rear Lower Control Arm
Both Seats
Front Bumper
Headlights

Here's a list of parts I know are damaged or unuseable:

Cylinder Head
Transmission
Windshield
Probably more little stuff

I haven't towed the car home yet (it's only about 2-3 blocks from where I live, so I was thinking about pushing it). It has moderate rust in the quarter panels (I've seen much worse) and plenty of rust on the rocker panels (side skirts). Other than that the body is actually incredible straight and free of dings / accident stuff.

I searched on car-part.com and found a plethora of CRX gas tanks for under $100 and a new LCA from honda is $66 + hardware and shipping.

Anyways onto the pics!

So what do you guys think...should I take this thing under my wing and fix it up, then maybe sell it? Or should I just strip it of parts and call the junkyard? I've got two D16A6 swaps lined up for $300 or less including the transmission and what not, and the rest of the parts aren't really hard to come by...just a matter of whether or not I want to put the blood sweat and tears into this project.

Give me your opinions.

Go for it! You've really got nothing to lose for that price.

Please fix it before I start crying. When you're done, hunt and kill the previous owners.

That would be a LOT of people, and some of them my friends.

I don't think it even ran when my friends had it. One of my other friends is kind of thinking about getting into body work but he doesn't have a ton of tools or anything. I'm not really concerned with the look of it since my other CRX is a rust free Texas car (mmm solid quarter panels).

Hopefully I'll have it home within the next week or two and I'll get it all cleaned out, pull that eyesore of a motor and tranny or atleast clean up the engine bay. I'll post more pics when I clean it up and get the new LCA installed.

and if you have the fab skills to fix it w/o paying someone else for labor then you are set!! it will take alot of work but you can't lose if you plan to keep it.

I agree that if you have the fab skills and time, fix her up. You dont need any overnight parts from Japan for any over night transformations

Get the parts you need and slowly fix her up in your free time. Then when she is mint, sell her for more than what you paid.

that car is prime for a COMPLETE tear down and resto. tare out the interior and all wiring, blast it, paint it, re wrap the wiring, put a healthy D in there and get some new bushings. That is like the IDEAL car to resto if u ask me (why, cuz its $15!)

I found another one that needs saved. 88-89 Si, haven't confirmed the year. This one has a completely unmolested interior, the timing belt broke or something, and the tires are flat. I don't think the rust is as bad either...but the bad news is that the guy won't take less than $250. Heck the interior is worth that to me for my main car.

If the interior is unmolested, and at only 250?! Take it. Hell, shipping for a full interior alone would probably be 250.
