Default AEM intake=gas hog

i just bought an AEM shor ram intake for my h22a1 vtec prelude and it seem to eat way more gas than the stock intake. well im just wondering if other users have this problem too, because AEM claims that their intakes improves gas mileage and this is not true in my situation. anyone has this problem. By the way, i dont go more that 70 mph and never engage vtec so it cant be those. any suggestions would be helpful.

maybe cause ppl tend to gas it more once they have an intake to "feel" like they are going faster or want to hear the noise that intakes make?

I agree with petern101. More air will help with higher gas mileage.

well you got some sort of problem. with an AEM cold air intake i average 25-28 mpg with an h22 in an accord wagon (weight arund 3200lb), and do drive over 70 and do floor it.
with a short intake on a b18c in a civic i used to average 27-32 mpg. I also did a lot of driving past 70 mph as well as flooring it.

you like the sound of your new intake, so unconsciously give your car more throttle to hear it better, and mileage goes down.

yes you do, or you have elves draining small quantities of gas every night while you sleep.

it might not just be you... honda gas gauges can also be weird... i've had problems in the past where my gas gauge had read almost up to 1/4 of a tank off, and then gone back up the next day... so it could be something else... but i'm pretty much 100% sure it's NOT your intake. .. is there anything you aren't thinking of like bigger wheels than normal or something?

Wrong. More air does not always mean better gas mileage.
