For those with ex big brakes, a question for you (not typical)
I have owned 2 CRX in the past (one is a 90 DX and the current one is 88 SI)and I have done a ex brake swap on both of them. After the swap was completed, my gas mileage dropped a ton, before the swap I could get around 36-38mpg, but rite now, I am only getting 24-26mpg.
I dont know why, but does it have to do with the bigger brakes and heavier spindles? I replaced alll my plugs after I realized the situation but that doesnt help at all. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

I would first suspect the hub bearings or maybe "stuck" brake calipers...
If a change to the hub/brake assembly dropped the gas mileage,
There must be a "rolling-resistance" created by some sort of drag..

right on the money

there's nothing draging at all. I raised the car on the lift and try to feel any looseness or draging, but there's nothing. Yes, it happened on both of them.
WHY???

i have the same problem
mine seem to be on the whole time, and everytime i cut the car off, the pedal gets stiff again when it should have play still in, also even in neutral w. the ebrake down the car does not roll, and its a crx i use to be able to push it w. one hand newhere i needed it to go, any help would be great

Your gas mileage will drop because larger diameter brakes require more power to put them into motion. If you put a car on a dyno with small discs and then put it back on the dyno with large brake discs, you can lose 4-8 horsepower from what I have seen.
Because it takes more throttle to now put the car in motion at the same rate it used to accelerate, you see a drop in gas mileage. Its the same thing as underinflated tires causing bad mileage.

ya but the drop in mileage would not be noticeable. Something is wrong, maybe the bearings have a lot of play that you won't notice while the car is jacked up.
what is meant by bearings having play in them? i need to get my brake problem resolved as soon as possible, im going threw tires and pads liek a champ, is it possible to install a booster wrong?
Did you touch the brake booster at all when you did the EX swap?
Check for a improperly adjusted pushrod if so.
I had a brake problem that plagued me for weeks before I finally figured it out.
The pushrod was just far enough forward that when the car was 'on' and created vacuum it caused pressure in the brake system.
This sort of drag will NOT be noticeable by just putting your car up on a lift!
