I was talking to a friend of mine and he was telling me that dry carbon fiber is the way to go. Is the only difference wet has a clearcoat ? Any ideas

your friend is either a painter, or an internet-tech.
Dry carbon fiber is lighter than wet, but it will degrade in 1/20th the time. It has no protection, and is suitable only for interior use or if you're planning on painting it. I have some customers who buy dry stuff on their race bikes, but only to ensure proper fitment and hole-placement before clearcoating or painting.
And when I say it's lighter, I mean that a dry c/f hood will weigh about 3oz less than one with a nice clearcoat.
