Default OK to NOT re-oil the Mugen K&N filter?

Since i cant find any shop that sells the K&N recharge kit here where i live, most shops either dont carry or is out and dont know when the next shipment will be in.

I havent clean my K&N filter in my Mugen airbox for like 30,000km.

Is it ok to just wash it and not oil it back?
Any negative effects?

I would not clean an oiled filter element without reoiling it.

How does it feel like it is "running super dry"?

I mean, I don't feel it... the sound of it sucking air is different for me (on my civic)
more like.. not picking up fine dust...

(okay, maybe I don't hear it different) but yeah... Just doesn't feel right

Called up Speeworks, they told me non in stock.

Anyone spoken or wrote to K&N HQ and ask if we dont reoil it will it cause damage to the filter?

I wouldn't worry about damage to the filter, just damage to the engine.

An oiled filter element is oiled for a reason, it's part of its filtering mechanism. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. I would rather have a dirty, oiled filter than a clean filter that isn't oiled.

I would have to agree with Reid, leave the dirtly oiled filter vs. a clean non oiled filter.

Yup. Don't run a clean non oiled filter until you can oiled the filter. The oiled is what catches the dirty and stuff.

It has to do with electrical charge, small dust and dirt particles are attracted by the charge of the oil and as more dirt/dust accumulate on the element, the more charge it carries, and the better it works...or something like that.

You might try an online vendor (for example autozone.com).
I am not sure if they will ship to you, but theres bound to be SOME online vendor who will!

Since when does mugen use K&N filters? The last mugen intake filter I saw was a white and unbranded cone.

Why not just buy another filter? Save the other for a spare.

I/ve only cleaned one KN filter and that was in my jeep when I sucked some mudd up the intake. All my other cars I just buy another and save the old one, for a rainy day or when someone else needs it.

They typically last a while!

The K&N filter maintenance kit is fine for use with the Mugen filters. I would not clean the filter without re-oiling it.

The older style Mugen intake uses K&N filters.

i heard if you dont re-oil it. smaller dust can just go right through.. the oil helps the filter catch more stuff..
i'd highly recommand to re oil it
no re-oil > no filter
