Default How good of a plan is this...

Well after a couplde days of having nothing better to do than read up on parts for my soon to come lude i've come up with an idea of what i want.

Starting off i will get an Aem cai, custom headers(smsp etc) and a decent exhaust. This is however when i got stuck before, i just wasnt sure where to go from there considering all the different things that can be done.

So i was thinking of this, euro type r intake manifold (ported by polarbeartuning.comm, heard good things) and a ported throttle body by the same company. After all these mods i was thinking it would be best to start tuning (prolly hondata but havent decided) and get the car running right. Next up are prolly cams and valvetrain and that will prolly be as far as i wanna go with my prelude. On the other hand supporting mods will follow, such as fuel management or w/e if it is necessary.

Please be nice, i consider myself a beginner when it comes to actually modding a car since this will actually be my first, even thought ive been hooked for years. Any advice is greatly appreciated, especially when it comes to wat parts to/not to buy and in what order.

Thanks, johnny.
(links are appreciated but if ur going to tell me to search, expletive off or ban me )

If you are willing to get some higher compression pistons (about $450) you can make more power with the cams. Although, most will tell you that the power in H22's comes from the head. Consider a port & polish. for the head.

How much would a port and polish on the head cost me on average?

Look up RLZ, Alaniz, and Portflow. They all 3 do good port work. You are looking at 750 and up.

Sounds like a good plan.

He's my advice, save up an ONLY buy when you have ALL the money available to do it all at once. Too many people half-azz it.

Here's the order I would do it. Build the engine first, buy the CAI, header, and cat-back last. Those are things that can always be installed after the engine is complete.

yeah, build the motor first, get rid of the big $ stuff...machine work is not only expensive, but can be iffy sometimes

hmm while i guess it is necessary i was not planning on changing the internals other than the cams and valvetrain i mentioned. By building the motor you are talking about sleeving and changing pistons rods etc? Just curious as to how far your "build you motor" idea goes.

not necessarily sleeve the motor, but maybe a port job on the head...

^ Yeah, give the head some special attention. Port, cams, & valvetrain for sure. If you are unsure about pistons, try the type S pistons. They are about 250.00 for a set, 380.00 with piston rings (saw it at prospeed.com). With type S pistons you do not have to sleeve the block. Good luck and keep us posted.
