I'm curious, did you find all the ring gaps lines up; or were they staggered? I'm tring to fathom why you suffered a thermal event on one side of the piston crown.
Detonation usually shows up very close to the spark plug (centered between the valve reliefs)

'cuz they're not supposed to be. They're supposed to be positioned 120 d from each other.
ie: 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock and 12 o'clock when viewed from the top.

that's one expensive lesson learned there........all piston rings are to be staggered

hmm, nick...

1...STOP YELLING!! No caps!

2...When ur car is done, its going straigh to the dyno...

BTW everyone...he had DSM's, VAFC, and inline pump... no tuning really, and yes it detonated like hell...

But, after this rebuild, everything is being redone...so dont worry, everything will be perfect!

Hey, if it's any consollation; he got bit by something that is all too often overlooked by instructors in Technical Schools. And in all fairness it probably wouldn't have been an issue if it had not been boosted. Now he knows; an expensive lesson for sure. But I'm quite sure he won't forget it for a LONG time

sorry buddy but this is NOT Weisco's problem. It is yours.

Get some real fuel management and **** like this wouldn't happen. It's called tuning. Look into it with a solution that can control your ignition timing.

looks like an expensive lesson to learn.

OUCH... that hurts man, thats why you have to make tuning a setup a priority. Next time, dont drive it till you get it tuned... keep some money set aside for just this reason.

How much boost was that at? Did you take any timing out at the dizzy to compensate for the vafc (guessing not)? What were your fuel settings at? What plugs? Etc?

rhdune16: I dont know why you would want those rods... they are just shot peen'd stockers from what I can tell. If you really want some rods, I just happen to have 2 full sets of eagle h beams sitting here (dont ask why I bought 2 sets, it was some good deals).

well, thats what you get for doing things the wrong way.....

why on earth someone would spend money on internals, and then cheap out on tuning is against me...oh well, good luck next time
