Default Auto Tranny problem

I was wondering if any of you had any insight to a strange problem that is occurring in a 94 LS automatic.......Anyways, the car will go for about 300-500 feet, then not respond (fall into neutral). Then, if you let the car sit for 10-15 minutes and restart it will go another another 200-300 ft.

Could this be a control(solenoid/liquid) issue and not a gear issue?

Could it be internal seals not holding, (i.e. after the fluid heats and becomes thin, it can't hold pressure to keep it in gear)?

Anyone had any experience with a similar problem? Or, should I just forget it and get a new tranny to put in?

Any B series auto tranny should work, right?

u mean ur tranny isn't grabbing and even though ur on D1, it feels like its in neutral?

that means, you have been trying to race with ur auto tranny. haha.

sucks for you. probably accidently shifted it to 'reverse' by accident?

well, its gonna cost you about 600-800 to get it fixed.

i dont know whats wrong, but if tow it to a shop and let them test drive it, they will know exactly whats wrong and well laugh at you and say, have you been racing with ur automatic integra?

Hey noob, if you can't answer the question(s) asked, or cannot lend anything worth while to the thread - DON'T POST!

No, I was not racing an auto teg. As a matter of fact, I bought this car (with the described problem) so that I could fix and resell it (I already have another teg). I was just wondering if it was a fixable problem, or if it would just be easier to put a new tranny in.

I don't have a clue as to why it would cost me $600-$800 to get it fixed (I paid less than that for the car, by the way)........you can find used trannys all over the place for about $300 - drop it in on a Saturday, and you are done.

Thanks for playing......

owned? go to any shop. they will charge you 600-800 for fix it with warranty.

its an auto, so most of us don't know S about it, so thats why we cant tell you whats wrong with it.

its not grabbing. thats all we know.

most shop charge 400 for labor alone. so 600-800 is my guess and i bet you that how much they will quote you.

so unless you do the work urself, expect to pay that amount.

auto trannys go for 200 or less. look around, people who do auto - manual swap would probably give it to you for $50.

when i did my swap, i sold my auto tranny for $200.

It appears that your reading comprehension skills leave a little to be desired, so I will help you out.........I am going to do the work myself. In other words, no shop will be involved, so I don't have to worry about what you think a shop will charge me...........In fact, no where in my question did I mention taking it anywhere. I simply wanted to know if someone with an auto had any similar experiences.

When you say "its an auto, so most of us don't know S about it, so thats why we cant tell you whats wrong with it."

Who exactly is this "us" you are talking about...........16 year olds like you, that have been members for less than a week?

After being on this board for several years, I will admit that there are more people with manuals (my other teg is a manual), but there are PLENTY of people with autos - I was hoping someone with a bit more experience/know-how could lend some expertise and insight. Note, it appears that you are not that person.

I brought up $300 because that is kind of a "worst case" scenario. Like I said, I am going to fix this car and flip it, so I wanted to look at the costs conservatively. It may well be less than that........Further, that is why I want to know if my current problem can be fixed, or if it would just be easier to cut ties and put a new/different tranny it.

Finally, if you know of someone who will sell me a tranny for $50, please let me know.
