Default Exhaust question

Ive recently ordered some DC sports headers for my 97 Accord LX 5-speed and i know that itll be too much backpressure for my stock exhaust. I dont want a lot of interior resonance and i want it to have a fairly mellow sound, no weedeater. Any suggestions?

You have too much backpressure when the piping size is too large, you lose torque. With your headers and a stock cat/exhaust you don't have to worry about backpressure, however the headers are rendered useless as the stock cat and exhaust are still restricting air flow. Replace your exhaust with a 2.25" catback and you will be fine.

NO, You may loose scavenging from velocity loss, but the back-pressure doesn't increase from larger exhaust pipes. And if additional improvements to the engine's pumping efficiency are enacted, the scavenging effect will improve.
Back-pressure is generated by a restriction to the flow thru a pipe or conduit.

The understanding of what takes place in an exhaust system can sometimes seem like practicing voodoo. What with Hydrodynamic theory, sonic reversion and noise suppression all taken into account.

Sorry bout that. Im fairly new to all of this. I am going to put a new exaust system on my car and i was just wondering what brand would sound better. Magnaflow or flowmaster. I dont want the car to sound like a weedeater if ya know what i mean. Any suggestions

The Flowmaster is by far louder than the Magnaflow. The Magnaflow is a real nice system, well built and polished within an inch of it's life. Unfortunately, the one on my '97 SE is coming off. Although it is more than acceptable outside it drones like the blazes inside.
I've ordered an RS*R ExMag to replace it. A little pricy, but it's the only 2.25" system that doesn't utilize a glorified GlassPack style muffler (that I'm aware of).
