Default Bike won't shift to second.

Yeah, it's a dirtbike, but a tranny is a tranny. Anyway, I just got my motor back from the shop. I had the case split and the crank split to have a new rod bearing installed. Sunday, I put it all back together and start it up. Bike runs perfectly, until I tried to ride it.

The original problem is definitely fixed, but now I have a new problem. The bike shifts down to first no problem. When I try to go up to second it just pops in to neutral and will not shift up. Now, I can grab the shifter with my hand and yank the **** out of it and make it go into second, but something is definitely not letting it shift correctly. Why would it be doing this?

Do I need to take my bike back to this guy that split the case and tell him he fucked it up? What could he have done to it that would cause this?

Yes, there is oil in the case.

Just to get that out of the way.

Sounds to me like a selector is in the wrong place. The gears are on a cassette yes? If so then it has to be the way the selectors are meshing. If it was fine before and now it doesn't shift then it is the problem with the guy who split the case. I doubt there is serious damage, cases just will not go back together if things aren't aligned.

I figured something wasn't meshing right. I'll call this guy today.

Just talked to the guy who did the work and he's going to look at it for me if I can't figure it out. I'm pulling the clutch cover tonight to see if there is something I can fix or figure out. If not he is going to come to my house and look at it for me. The guy is super cool.

Z, its prob something in the cases and prob not able to be seen inside the cover. im sure you have the clutch adjusted right, but that can be part of a problem. while your looking, be sure to look at your clutch basket and make sure its not grooved, that can cause problems down the road with the clutch. i just figured i would mention that since your pulling the cases off anway.
be glad you took it to someone, splitting the cases sucks.

edit: does it shift fine when its not running or still hang up with 2nd?

Same thing running or not. I'm pretty sure it's nothing major. I hope not anyway.
