Default ATTN: 6th gen V6 owners.

To make a long story short, I'm installing hood dampers to my 4cyl Accord that didn't come with it.

The hood for the 4cyl and 6cyl accord has the same part number. I got the dampers/gas shocks with the ball joint piece on either end, but I can't seem to figure out to install it.
Do I need another piece, or should I start considering drilling holes?

TIA

I would go to a honda dealer and ask them how to install them. They will usually be more than helpful......

#13, #21, #23 are the parts you need

Hey. Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

Yes I have a print out of that diagram, and I have parts 13 and 21.

I dont' think #23 is helpful since I'm pretty sure it bolts the hinge to the hood, like #22 bolts the hinge to the engine bay.
I was told by a friend that the damers/shock bolts to another metal bracket.

The Honda dealer hasn't helped me out one bit other than printing out the same diagram to me.

Thanks.

what's the purpose of it? making the hood less susceptible to damage if closed or dropped incorrectly?

it removes the need for the hood prop.
makes lifting the hood much easier.

The V6 models were the only ones that came with it.

if you took a picture of the mounting I am sure that would help him.

If you are tlaking to me...then I don't have a mounting point that's the problem.

If someone would be nice to take a picture of the mounting points on the V6 accord WITH HOOD DAMPERS installed, then that would be much appreicated.

I think you might have to custom weld/fit it to make it work.

i've heard a few people try this and it doesn't really just connect/plugNplay.

If the holes are not already in the hood you will have to do some drilling and reinforcing before mounting the brackets for the hood shocks.

Yes..it's apparent that it's not plug and play. What I dont understand it is that the V6 and 4cyl have the same hood. It's the same part number. The 4cyl hood has holes on the side, but the shocks with the ball joints cannot be screwed in. The hole is too large, which tells me that I need another piece. However, looking at the diagram there is no more part.

There are thousand of V6 owners that have hood dampers, surprised none has put in any good info. It's easier to find information about D16 swaps in accords than my question.

OK here is how they attach

#21 screws into the side of the hood about halfway between the front and back

#19 bolts to the firewall in the corner just below the cowl ( you will have to dril and use self taping screws)

#13 attaches to #21 and #19

^^^

Thanks.

Last time you told me that I needed part #23, so I guess you found this information somewhere else.

Yes the #21 should go into the hood, but the hole that is there now is too big for #21. #19 is a new thing...and I"ll swing by the dealership tomorrow to pick that up.

Thanks.

So much for that.

I went to the Honda Dealer, and #21 is called a Drain Valve used to colled or shut the water from the windshield.

I am just going to tap and thread into the hood and wall.

beware of tapining into the hood and firewall, i dobut that material is thick enough to support much load. its sheet metal.

go look at a 6th gen V6, you will see that it is just fine to attach the hood strut to the firewall where indicated.

i would imagine that honda would have welded a nut behind the firewall for the struts to bolt onto. the sheet metal is pretty thin and not exactly too reliable to try to tap threads onto. but i wouldn't be surprised with the 6th gen, the build quality sucks compared to the 4th and 5th gens. they cut corners where they could.
