Default stock internals for boost

would my stock internals in my 89 hatch si with 180,000 miles be good to push about 5-7lbs or should i upgrade some things....i got some spare money layin around due to the loss of a close family member that use to help me with car stuff so now im lost. if i wanna be around the 200-225 whp mark what should i upgrade internaly both in the head and bottom end and to push close to 12-15 lbs.
if i should upgrade what to the great people of HT suggest, THANKS you guys

on http://www.homemadeturbo.com there is a 93 ex with 175k running 12 psi on all stock internals. look in the projects section.

stuff to upgrade for big hp gains would be rings, rods, pistions, valve springs/retainers... etc. im sure others can answer you better.

generally you would be safe with low psi. What condition is your engine in do a leak down and compression check, how many miles are on it etc. What are you planning on tuning it with? Its all about the tuning. No offense to any homemade turbo fans they don't give a **** what they do if they blow it up or not, but it all depends on if its your daily driver. If you boost too high you could throw something threw your brand new turbo wheel if you know what i mean.

ok now about the stuff i need....like injectors and fuel management and tuning, whats its all good for and should i really get it and have it done and stuff like that. with only 180,000 miles i think i might be good engine has no leaks and his in tip top shape. i think i could have a few friends who kno alot about hondas help with the install justt didnt kno if like the turbo kit and intercooler kit is all i needed. i would like to make this a daily driver if possible.....any helpful suggestions or comments are recommended, THANKS

injectors, fuel pump and a good engine management are what i would call important. i think you should look into a kit if you are unsure about what exactly you need. when it comes down to it, its all about the tune. a good tuner will pull good power out of low boost levels and your motor will last

whats LMK? and is there any reason i should slap a sohc vtec head on i think its the d15 or just stick with the nonvtec head d16...does vtec really matter when boosting?

yeah i was lookin at some different kits just didnt kno what all i should mainly look for in each kit, like oil lines and fuel management....how much would a good tune be after the instal to get some good hp at low boost....thanks for the help guys im actually learning something

If you want to do this the cheapest route do this,,

HF manifold with adapter plate
Turboedit chipped ecu(I see you have a 89 ecu though and those are a pain)
Get a fuel pump from a dohc vtec car like a gsr
You might be able to use stock injectors,,but if you're past like 210hp get some 450's from an old dsm,,
Go to a junkyard and find a turbo and intercooler,,Look into those old saab t3s and old dsm cars with there 14b and 14g turbos..
Oil feed and return line can be had cheap off ebay..
Run a bosch bov or one of those $20 ones off ebay..
Get the intercooler piping kit off ebay,,there like $100 for a shitload of pipes..
Have downpipe made at your local exhaust shop..
Also if you go past 10psi you have to get a different map sensor..Stock honda ones are good untill ~10 psi..

All the info you need is at http://homemadeturbo.com,xenocron.com,turboedit.org and,pgmfi.org

There are some motorolla 2.5bar ones floating around but unless you plan on running more then 12lbs with Turboedit or Uberdata then youll be fine. You can run 390s or 450s. 390s Ive found tend to have a better idle. BTW my buddy has 200k on his d15b7 and was running fine @ 10lbs with the AFC hack stock fuel pump untill his t-belt broke. Itd never been changed since the car had been purchased.... O well y7 head and ARPs are on the way!!!
