I am in the midst of purchasing an '01 S2000 with 41,000 miles on it; does it fall within the manufacturer's warranty still? I am purchasing it through a private party if that makes any difference.

 

no.. out of warranty... unless he purchased the honda care thing to 100k miles..

Some dealers sell Easy Care aswell that can extend the warranty up to 120k.

 

so if the car is a 2003, and this year is 2006, is the warranty still valid til the end of the year (if the mileage stays below 36k)? or from the purchase date? but whats the purchase date if its a used vehicle?

 

36 K or 36 months. Whichever comes first.

the warranty starts on the orignal purchase date. the warranty may have expired depending on when it was bought. you could ask a local dealership to see if it still is

 

what if i dont know when or where the car was originally bought from? how would the dealer know?

im asking because im highly considering buying a 2002-2003 and wondering if trying to get a year out of warranty from a 2003 is worth it.
