My 98 civic coupe has been giving off a really bad smell, like a burning gas smell after i rev my car in high gear. Its a automatic so I dont think its anything with the cluth or anything. I just finished spending 800$ on new stuff, like timing belt, and a bunch of other belts, and i just got a oil change. My car has 83,000 miles so its not that old, my engine bay is really dirty, can it possibly be from that? Any help given, will be much appreciated...thanks

 

bad smell as in runnin' too rich or bad smell as in it smells like oil?

 

Its more of a gas burning smell, like an exhaust smell

 

might just be runnin' too rich...do you have a VAFC or a FPR?

ok i doubt you have a VAFC and FPR stands for fuel pressure regulator.

anyway, your injectors or fuel pump might be goin' bad if you're suddenly runnin' rich.

when was the last time your car got a tune up?

 

exhaust leak? is your car loud?

 

I have an exhaust on my car, it doesnt sound louder now that the car smells.

 

I really dont know when the last time i got a tune up, i just finished paying 800$ to change a bunch of belts and breaks on my car at Break Masters, and i just got back from them today like an hour ago, and they ahve no idea whats wrong with my car, and its really starting to **** me off, do u guys think i should go to another mechanic, they told me to go to the Honda mechanics and see what they say, but i really dont wanna be charged an arm and a leg, im a broke student, i really appreciate all the help

 

when you break 4k, does the motor smoke at all? if so, is it blue or black smoke?

If it's an automatic how do you rev it .......in high gear ?
