93 eg, low 11's, chromoly or mild steel bar and why please. obviously weight, but i was always taught, c-m fatigues easier than mild steel? please explain your response.
If you look for my post about this i asked the same thing. I am saving up and just getting the moly cage because the cage in it self will not really fatigue and weaking too much. If you had a tube chassis built, then with all the suspension binding and body twisting, the moly will fatigue faster and can become brittle and unsafe in a crash. But again the cage will not really fatigue at the same rate due to being welded into your chassis.
Chromoly is quite a bit stronger than mild steel. If it fatigued and broke, they wouldn't run it in five second top fuel cars.
Mild steel's ultimate tensile strength is around 60,000psi, whereas chromoly is around 85,000psi. Heat treated chromoly can have a tensile strength in upwards of 120,000psi, however heat treating a roll cage is impractical.

Only stronger, not lighter. The weight savings comes from using thinner tubing. Where most mild steel needs to be .120 or so, 4130 can be .083.

I'm close, whats the name of the shop? I'm a weight fanatic so I would choose moly.

The person who was gonna do my cage said I have to heat treat the complete cage.
Do u really have to heat treat the cage?

if the fitup of the joints are good, and the welds aren't too hot you can avoid the need to stress relieve afterward. Read this faq.
