"over" baking headlights?
hey guys
just a really quick question...
many of you know of the baking the housing to get it apart to paint them or whatnot... but what about baking them again?
my headlights did not seal quite right so they have now turned a nasty yellowish hued color. would it be safe baking them again? or would i risk weakening the plastic too much?
thanks

it sounds like you've already done enough. Leave em alone, or buy some new headlights and start over.
When I did mine a couple years ago I used some extra goo on them to ensure a good seal. I forget what I baked them at. You might be able to pull up the thread I made..

I did mine at 200 for 10 minutes. Worked fine. When you finnish them you should put them together and throw them back in the oven for a few minutes to heat up the goo again. Then push em together and if you want to be sure that you wont have leaks, get some clear silicone and put a bead around the lights to ensure a good seal.
As far as the yellowing of the lights, you might be screwed on that. Try getting some Meguires Plastic X and cleaning them. If it doesnt come off then youll probably have to get new lights. Get some OEM ones and do it again. Not sure what year your car is but I know JDMCarboy.com has or had some 96-98 pairs for like 40 bucks. Worth a shot. Hope that helps some

alright cool guys... thanks for the replies.
this time i jsut have to make sure i seal it better. ill probably shoot some darker paint on the housing cause gunmetal looks kinda funny.
other than that, i plan to buff the inside / outside with plastic polish and rubbing compound to get it back to its original clearness.
thanks again.

i get so upset at people who put their headlights in the oven, because it requires such close attention and just a couple seconds too long, you'll have ruined headlights. Stick to the heat gun.
