sputtering motor after MSD box install
Like the topic, says, my car is puttering if the higher rpm's. When i installed the SCI-L MSD box on my car, the car started to putter when i would after 4000 rpms. I know that i hooked up all of the wires right, and i double checked all of my connections. My car is in limp mode right now and the Vtec isn't working. I was thinking that the MSD is making in like this because the car is in limp mode. Do you think that this could be why its sputtering? The sputtering is almost like a rev limiter? I have a 7000 pill in right now. I had a 6000 pill in before just to be safe with the whole limp mode thing. I am still trying to find out what is wrong with the vtec, ( I have tried everything, trust me) and i'm going to try to get another vtec solenoid, but thats a whole other story. Right now i'm just worried about the sputtering. Thanks everyone.
I would just take the MSD box off! My MSD was making my motor sputter too no matter what pill i had on. Took it off and wired back to stock and had no more sputter. Or just check your MSD wiring again very carefully.
Wire it back to stock and see if it still sputters... Your Prelude can be made to run fine with an MSD ignition box, but they are more of a PITA than anything IMO.
in case you haven't heard this yet honda builds better stuff than msd. That little box will bother, hinder, annoy however you want to word it. Find some sucker and unload it! If the problem only started after the install you should be able to narrow down the problem in a hurry. Good luck

well my uncle's first cousin's niece's great grandfather's sister's x-husbands fiancee's secret lover's step-brother's retarded dog's previous owner used to have one for over 35 years and never had the first problem with it.......go figure......
If your car is in limp mode you will have a solid check engine light. Otherwise pull the code and see what code you are throwing. Honda weak point in their ignition is the ignition control module which i have replaced on 2 seperate cars. One with MSD and the with out MSD. It will make the car sputter because it will not trigger the coil to fire all the time. One of my cars was sputtering so I installed MSD it stopped for about a month then my iginition control module went so i replaced it and i've been happy since. MSD does not make a difference that I could tell. Though the only reason why installed it is because i am boosting soon otherwise i would have just sold it. Though with a MSD setup you can bypass the ignition control module.
as soon as i put the msd box on the car, it started to sputter. The vtec spool solenoid light is on. It does stay on the whole time. It has been on ever since i did the swap which was about 5 months ago. do u think that i should sell the sci-L msd box, i have the box mounted on the firewall back near the fuse box. i think that i am going to try a new vtec solenoid all together becuase i have tried wiring vtec 4 seperate times, i've bought 3 different ecu's, i've bought a new oil pan, i've tried seeing if the solenoid worked( when u hook the solenoid up to a power source, the solenoid will click open), the solenoid did work. I've tried cleaning the whole vtec setup out, solenoid and pressure switch. The only thing i can do now is buy a oil pressure gauge and check the oil pressure of the motor or buy a known working solenoid. Any ideas?????? Thanks for all the help.
